Kinda creepy, eh? Well, i'd like you to meet Trent Reznor. He's the brains behind Nine Inch Nails (Nails for short...). Anyways, throughout his career, he has managed to keep fans and other people on their feet (except those um, drugged up--you know who you are!).
Nails has been my favorite band for many, many years. I will admit, I got on the "Closer Bandwagon," but I soon heard Pretty Hate Machine and Broken. I was instantly addicted.
My favorite song of all time is 'Terrible Lie'.
"...you make me throw it all away/my morals left to decay/how many you betray/
you've taken everything..."
There are other parts of songs that need recognition by me....
really powerful is 'heresy'
"...your god is dead/and no one cares/if there is a hell/i'll see you there..."
and 'ruiner'
where he screams "didn't you!" and
how the song just drops and changes to a pink-floyd-guitar-and-drum-machine-like state...
oh, and 'ringfinger' (second favorite)
"...a promise carved in stone/deeper than the sea..."
Now if that doesn't say something, what does?
I will love Trent till the day I die, whether he passes away, quits, or just dissappears
into Area 51. Trent Reznor has impacted my life along with many other people.
Keep it up Trent, you got somethin good. Go with it.
Now with the new halo thirteen out, an all new feeling passes through the mind
and body.
The anticipation of what the all-new double album will sound like.
The tingle running up and down your spine whenever you hear the remix of
"The Day The World Went Away".
Or the feeling of real power when you blast up "Starfuckers, Inc.",
hearing Trent use Carly Simon's words-
"...you're so vain/ i bet you think this song is about you/ don't you?..."
Although these thoughts are great, one has questions running in the back of the head. Questions about the album. Questions about the coincedences. But the most important question is one that's been asked before. - the question of anonymity.
Will Trent still be a ghost in the darkness?
Even during TPD era, he was barely heard from, except in magazines and working on projects
with David Bowie and other artists. Are we gonna lose the Trent we know to the
"Britney Spears saturation rotation" era that we've come to live with?
I mean, subconsciously, whether anyone agrees to it or not, we've always loved Trent because there was that secrecy about him. We didn't know his plan of action. We didn't see him on mtv selling out. We didn't see performances on leno or letterman. Simply, he didn't become a boob-tube icon.
But he is an icon; a cultural icon, a heroic icon, and an icon for everyone that listens to the music and feels strength, weakness, anger, and sometimes, his pain.
Inside Starfuckers, Inc., a march of the pigs begins...
It is a warm place, where people scream, "help me i am in hell".
You would think that some are now dead souls and that they gave up.
But most have gotten closer to the ruiner and his reptile, finding happiness in slavery.
As Mr. Self Destruct looks at his ringfinger, he is reminded of Piggy.
His head like a hole, the big man with a gun is hurt.
He needs the perfect drug, as an eraser, to forget his terrible lie.
His world, based on heresy, was the becoming of the downward spiral
he created for himself.
Tempted, he wants to pinion himself...
One wish is something i can never have because i know that it is a sin.
Just one last chance to get down, make love.
To be down in it. To feel the burn.
To suck, well kinda, i want to.
It's the only time i can feel so physical.
But that's what I get. I am sanctified, and i do not want this.
