Analysis of how Flowers of the Heart models The literary style of Comparison

Flowers of the Heart explores the relationship of certain archetypes with others and how they relate to one another. In the fairy tale I explored certain qualities that were held by two men and of a young women. The fairy tale setting allowed for fictional liberties to further explore the qualities of an individual in comparison with other individuals. The name of the main character is Lily, and she is set as being a princess. The name itself creates the image of this young girl being noble, soft, beautiful, and desirable because of her virtue. She is able to bloom and to wilt. This aspect compares emotional states to the cycles that a flower endures. The second character introduced is named as a Dark Wind Dragon. This name quickly compares him as being corrupt, deceptive, freedom loving and mysterious. This character’s qualities are contrasted against the Tiger’s qualities. The Tiger is knowledgeable, fierce, independent, a leader, but is also noble, just as the Princess is noble. The Tiger in contrast to the Dragon is not mysterious. The reader learns that the Princess and the Tiger knew each other from the past. The Dragon is a new factor in the Princess’ life, he is mysterious, and the outcome of a relationship with him is appealing because it has an unknown element to it that begs to be explored by the human curiosity that is held within the Princess.

Metaphors are used through the entirety of the piece; the characters provide a forum for comparative writing, using metaphor. At the end of the story when the two true lovers are reunited, flowers spring up in the Kingdom. This is symbolic of renewed growth because the Princess followed her heart.

Comparison allows writers to explore different avenues of thought. When I wrote this I was exploring an avenue of thought, weighing possible outcomes of a situation that I was in at the time. Though the story is one of fiction the foundation of it is based on fact. The story is presented with archetypal symbols because they compare to the qualities found in the real story behind the one presented here. Comparison was used as a tool to explore help how certain important things related to one another in my life.

Perspective and opinions were successfully shared with the reading audience, through the use of comparison in Flowers of the Heart. Differences and similarities between elements in the story were clearly shown to the reader, successfully sharing perspective of those elements.

Compared also with this story is lust and love. Love is something fleeting, that comes and goes like the wind (as it came and left with the Wind Dragon), and love is shown to be something everlasting. Love is shown to be something that in contrast to lust evokes inspiration in a person to go to great lengths to be retrieved. Love is shown to spread its joy and fruitfulness to all that surrounds it, as the Tiger Lilies blooming at the end of the story symbolize. Both lust and love are shown to share the similarities of evoking confusion within a person.

The Kingdom that has gone and been forgotten and the lilies that remain are meant to compare the important element and moral to this story that it doesn’t matter who it is that feels love, love goes on and will always be a part of the human existence.

This story explored ideas and morals through use of metaphor and comparison, with displaying a bias and a message to the audience. It is for these reasons that Flowers of the Heart was successful as a comparative paper.
