Camden, N.J. January 8, 1998
Oasis kicked off their 1998 North American tour in Camden, New Jersey last
night at the E-Centre, just outside of Philadelphia. The band, which was well
rested after a short holiday break from touring, was energized and put on a
spectacular performance to kick off the American leg of their tour.
The highlight of the show was the return of Noel's acoustic set, in which he played 'Don't Go Away' and 'Heroes' to a crowd which went nuts when realizing that Noel would be playing alone. Noel's acoustic performance was a staple of last year's tour, but up until now the band had done without it during their Europe performances and in their two NYC performances. (except for one show in Dublin where Liam was forced to sit out with a sore throat.) 'Don't Go Away' was absolutely gorgeous with Noel bringing out the song's true beauty and the E-Centre crowd responding with a sea of lighters waving high in the air.
Despite some technical difficulties, the band sounded fantastic, as did Liam's voice. D'You Know What I Mean? was definitely a highlight of the show, as well as the encore - an incredible, blistering version of "Fade In-Out." It left the crowd begging for more, but unfortunately the night was done. Noticeably absent from the setlist was "All Around The World" which seemed unusual being that the single is set to be released as a radio single in the United States and as a proper single in the UK in four days. Next stop for the band is a trip up the New Jersey Turnpike, to the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
