Last night Oasis played to a packed-in crowd at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco. It was amazing. We were in about the 7th row back and almost dead center (there were no seats so I'm referring to rows of people). The lights went out and we all jumped up and moved forward for Cornershop. They surprised me, they were quite good, but I was waiting for Oasis. Noel even came out and played Bass Guitar on the last Cornershop song and everybody went nuts! The song was quite long and when it was over they quickly disassembled Cornershop's stuff and put Oasis' on. Then bam about 15 minutes later you could hear "The Boys are Back in Town" pouring through the speakers, then the intro to "Be Here Now." Oasis came on and it was a madhouse, everybody moved forward and we were all getting crushed, but we didn't care. Then they ripped into "Be Here Now!" Next came a perfect performance of "Stand by Me" then a blistering performance of "Supersonic," and "Roll With It." Then everybody went totally crazy when the intro to "D'You Know What I Mean" blasted out of the speakers. I'd never heard this song live and I was wondering if they would be able to pull it off live, they sure did, and it was incredible. Then Noel said "This one's for everyone in England" and the crowd roared as Noel ripped into the oh-so familiar riff of "Cigarettes and Alchohol". Then came Noel's acoustic set where he played an amazing performance of "Don't Go Away," then a real Noel acoustic "Talk Tonight" and then a Beatles cover called "Help!" I've never heard it before but it sounded incredible. The n he put a capo on his guitar and went into "Whatever" and I was going crazy, yet nobody recognized it until he started singing it, but I knew right away what he was playing. Then everbody but Liam came out for "Don't Look Back in Anger" and everybody was jumping and yelling and cheering. Then Liam came out and said "This song's called Wonderwall," and the crowd got even louder! Then the favorite "Live Forever" and it was the best performance of it I'd ever heard. Now the super-loud "It's Getting Better Man and that was another awesome one. Then Liam said "Champagne Supernova" and the crowd went crazy, then he said "D'you even know what that is you fucking bastards!" He was getting pretty pissed-off at people flipping him off, I would be too, as he said "You lazy fucking fatass bastard" to one of the offenders. They left and Noel said "Thanks for coming" we knew it wasn't over, and then back out they came for an AMAZING performance of "Acquiesce!" When it was over they walked off Noel and Guigs throwing their towels into the crowd. They got shirts thrown at them during the performance but it didn't bother them because they didn't come close to hitting them. There were lots of mosh pits towards the front, and lots of crazy people. But it was still a great concert, louder than bombs, and that night they proved they were the best band in the world, as if there was any doubt in the first place.
