A DARK DAY IN THE CARAVAN
KENICKIE HAVE SPLIT*
The rumours have been circulating for quite some time, now it seems the rumours have become the truth.
Kenickie played what appeared to be their last ever gig on Thursday 15th of October at the LA2, London. A small group of scary internet fans gathered for the occasion, some still believing it to be merely the end of the tour...they were wrong.
Lauren exited the stage - after a set made up mainly of the old classics - with a cry of
"We used to be Kenickie...a bunch of fuckwits."
Half true, half lies, but a nice way to leave all the same.
While the end of Kenickie has caused many mailing list tears to be shed it was not unexpected and this helps to relive the pain.
The Kenickie Caravan, myself and hopefully
Kenickie fans everywhere would like to wish Marie, Lauren, Emmy-Kate and Pete good luck with all they do. We hope to still see you around and most importantly hope that you are happy.
Thanks for the best gigs I've been to, the best records I've heard, the best interviews I've read, basically some of the best times of my life. It's only now I've realised exactly how much Kenickie have meant to me, they've helped me through the bad times and made the good times better without them my life won't be over but it will be different.
I have minor obsessions with bands all the time - Kenickie were different, Kenickie were more than that, Kenickie were an obsession who I also happened to love. For the moment at least 'were' may be the wrong word, even if 'Kenickie' don't exist, the people who made 'Kenickie' what it was still do. I can find something wrong in every band - in Kenickie even the split was right, Kenickie were a band everyone wanted to be part of, especially them, and once that was gone for them it was gone for everyone.
The final gig was the best I've seen and for a band a fantastic gig must be the best way to go.
Kenickie are gone but they will never be forgotten.
Kenickie will be missed but they will always be loved.
I would like to take this opportunity to say The Kenickie Caravan will continue, feel free to leave messages of despair in the guestbook.

*There has been no OFFICIAL conformation of the split, however Pete has appeared on the Kenickie Fried Chicken message board saying "There are no plans for Kenickie". The NME website has reported the split and no-one seems to believe they are still together. It is safe to assume Kenickie is dead.
**I would like to apologise for the poorly written cliched nature of this statement, but I feel it is the truth.
Kate (not me, another Kate/Katie person) is putting together a book of tributes, here's what she had to say about it.
-- hallo ...i'm compiling a book for kenickie which will contain tributes and memories and
thank-yous and all the rest, from as many kenickie people as i can get my
grubby little paws on....to show them how much they were/are adored..
it will be sent to ''the band'' (sobsob), i promise..
any contributions are gleefully accepted, and tell all yr klassy friends to
write too..
or draw a little picture, or write a savage little poem..and get all personal
and soppy
send a photo, too..if you want to be remembered...
start sending your pieces in the next couple of weeks..i'm thinking of
producing a fanzine of all the tributes i receive, so i can send all
contributors a copy of the finished product..not such good quality,
though...but i'll see what happens..
but please EVERYONE who reads this send something, because it would be worse
to send a skinny, empty little book than nothing at all...
anyone who's involved in a kenickie-related fanzine, write and tell them...i'm
involving ''sparkie'' fanzine and ''fizzy''...but others'd be cool too...
anyway..my address..
Kate Adams,
47, Church Street,
Long Bennington,
Nr. Newark,
Notts,
NG23 5EL...
and i IMPLORE you to contribute...it's important..
don't be embarrassed about writing anything
please write, or draw, or poeticise (?)...i'll love you for it, and you'll
love you for it..
and kenickie'll love us all for it!
see you soon
love from kate

Kate - sorry if me taking chunks out of this has messed it up a bit but I thought you explained the idea better than I would and it was a bit big to put the whole thing in.
