Fave Picks for 2001 (so far)

*it's noteworthy that there are a LOT more worthwhile albums that have come out this year, & that is a VERY good thing!! people need to realize there's more to music than boy groups & pop princesses!! these are somewhat in order of preference:

  • Echo & the Bunnymen--Flowers; good mellow stuff
  • New Order--Get Ready; a must have from this year
  • The Cult--Beyond Good & Evil; whoever says rock & roll is dead IS dead, & hasn't heard this album!!
  • Clan of Xymox--Notes from the Underground; not like anyone knows who they are, but they're STILL making albums more than a decade later, & that should count for something
  • Ohgr--Welt; Skinny Puppy members
  • Depeche Mode--Exciter; hey, it's DM...not their best album, but glad they're not sick of making music yet
  • Static-X--Machine; I think I like their 1st better, but this still rox
  • Staind--Break the Cycle; I was wondering what more of their mellower material would sound like, so I guess this answered my question
  • Garbage--Beautiful Garbage; this is ok, but their previous 2 albums can't be beat
  • Weezer--{Green Album}; definitely still like their 1st better, but some catchiness on this rather short album

    Best Concerts--Psychedelic Furs in April
    June: Ohgr
July: Violent Femmes, Depeche Mode (again)
    September: Static X (again)

    Fave new band--Coldplay

    Favorite Picks for 2000

This year was rather bland & still infested with all that damn kiddie krap that just makes me puke. There were a few good cds worth hearing, & here are a few:

  • The Cure--Bloodflowers; had to get after seeing a promo show back in February; & duh, they're my favorite band period
  • Orgy--Vapor Transmission; a good followup
  • Godsmack--Awake; another good followup, maybe even better than their 1st
  • Disturbed--Sickness; my brother recommended them to me over the summer & had kept bugging me if I had heard "Stupify" yet, which of course I did hear cuz it got a "little" overplayed...but I still liked it, & their other stuff

Best new singer--Dido; "Here with Me" I instantly liked, & her other stuff I've didn't disappointed me either...& she doesn't have a whiny voice!!

Best Concerts--definitely the Cure first, particularly the one I saw in a small club in February, & next would have to be the Powerman 5000/Static X show, where I was impressed w/ Static X (who admittedly is influenced by the Cure somewhat, go figure)

    Favorite Picks for '99

  • Orgy--Candyass; saw live in March & June; toooo many damn kiddie wannabe moshers at the June show :P
  • Buckcherry; saw live in May, rockin show
  • Cranberries--Bury the Hatchet; very reminiscent of the 1st 2 albums
  • Staind--Dysfunction
  • Godsmack

Favorite music videos--not like you'd see any of these on regular mtv, but mtv2 played em a LOT that summer. They are: Chemical Brothers "Let Forever Be" cuz of the cool visual effects, & Blur's "Coffee & TV", with that strangely adorable milk carton

Best concert--The Cult; no kiddies there to ruin it

    Favorite Picks for '98

  • Favorite Modern Rock Songs--"My Own Prison" by Creed (this song RULED...rest of the cd rawks too) & "Got You Where I Want You" by the Flys
  • Favorite Rock cd--"Version 2.0" by Garbage ... GET THIS CD!! not cuz the critics tell you too...but cuz I did :)
  • Favorite Tours--Depeche Mode Singles & Bauhaus Resurrection Tours were my faves
  • Favorite new bands--Orgy & *gulp* dare I say, Creed

    * You know, there really wasn't anything else in '98 new that I liked cuz it was dominated still by pop crap. And no use listing what other cd's I got this year cuz they're from the 80's.

    My Favorites out of '97

    Cd's

  • Collective Soul--Disciplined Breakdown
  • Days of the New
  • Echo & the Bunnymen--Evergreen
  • Prodigy--Fat of the Land
  • Wallflowers--Bringing Down the Horse

  • Favorite bands of '97--Wallflowers, Prodigy, Days of the New, Sublime, Jamiroquai
  • Female singer--Paula Cole.... more talented than Jewel; not to mention she beat hanson & puke daddy at the grammy's... but where is she now?
  • Favorite song--"Bittersweet Symphony" by the Verve (then the radio stared killing it in '98, argh)
  • Best video--"Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai (finally, MTV picked a winner that I agreed with)
