On stupid things at my job
Mar 12 98
My work is driving me crazy.
We have to use this really crappy software to catalogue the petroleum companies sites. The problem is that it sometimes just stops. It doesn't close, doesn't crash the computer or anything; it just stops, and
won't respond to anything we do to it. It is an applet, I think (we use it through web browsers), but i don't think that's the cause of the problem.
Everytime it stops I have to shut the browser down, and start it all again. So my job is becoming a race against time, with me trying to catalogue the sites before the program forgets about itself. There were times I typed the same information four times, and after each of them it would stop right after I finished typing.
Every Thursday we're supposed to have a online chat with the supervisor of the whole thing, from 2 until 3 p.m. Just that, instead of using a decent chat program, we have to use this stupid site with slow connections where we gotta keep hitting the "update" button. it's a complete waste of time, until everyone arrives, connects to the chat and start making/answering questions to each other, it's already 3 p.m., and nothing useful was made with that.
AAAAAAAA.
Had a really nice lunch, today. I met Chica at the restaurant I went to, she was with her friends from her class. She's studying History, but what she really wanted to do was Communications. She wasn't approved in the test for it, though, she was only approved here at Unicamp, so she's here until the time for the next test comes. We had a really nice lunch, and we went to see a guy singing at the Mathematics Institute. He was pretty bad, but it was pretty nice being with her.
My friends from college are all desperate! We found out the Statistics teacher we got is the hardest one, 90% of the people that had Statistics with him last semester failed. So now they all want to drop that discipline, so that they'll keep on not having a failed discipline on their records. I've already failed wo disciplines, so I'm cool with it.
It's pretty interesting to get in Korean/Chinese/Japanese sites. Their code is different from ours, so where there should be all those signs they understand, from here we see all these random letters. Not that I would understand them, even if I saw the right symbols.
Been re-reading "The Kindly Ones". That's just a great story, it's better each time I read it again. It has just so many subtle and interesting detais, each time I read it I find something new.
