On choirs, teachers and procrastination Mar 26 98 Have so much to say today. Tuesday I went with Gina (a girl from my college) to watch a choirs presentation. Gina is in the choir I am too, and she also studies Computer Engineering. It was pretty nice. It isn't all that popular, so most of the people who went to watch it were either choir singers or their relatives. But I got to know quite a lot of people from choirs. It's funny to see how they have inside jokes completely unintelligible by those who don't sing in a choir, or at least don't know a few technical words. Three choirs performed that night. The first one was good, but pretty small, and sang some pretty uninteresting songs. The second one was the best by far, very well rehearsed and with a great repertoir. The best one was one called "Beba Coca-cola" (drink Coca-cola), based on a Brazilian poem, very interesting. It even included a burp. The last choir was probably the worst one. It had only five people, and a little band who played along. They all sang old boring songs, as if they were at their house or something. The regent kept on dancing and jumping around. Weird. On Wednesday Davi and I flunked a Physics II test. Davi because he arrived late, and I because I knew absolutely nothing. Afterwards we left, talked a little, went to a CD store to see what we found. Davi bought Fiona Apple's "Tidal". Since I had no money, I bought nothing. Davi went to his home, and I went to see my Calculus III teacher, Ary, so that he would explain me his last class. Ocasionally he taught me everything he had given since the beginning of the semester again, since I knew almost nothing. But he's a very good teacher, when he finished I understood everything. Now I just have to make a few exercises. We chatted a little after he finished explaining. What's quite an unique experience. Ary has the sharpest tongue I know, probably because he's gay. I think that's a survival tool for gay people. So, anyway, when I left the room he had managed to include truck drivers and buses full of soccer fans, all of them wanting to give me a ride in exchange of favors. But he's just like this when he's sugar-high, so most of time he's not quite so drastic. Danilo got sick on Wednesday night (yesterday), REALLY sick, so today he just didn't go to college. It just wasn't fair, he staying at home sleeping on a comfortable bed while I went to college to sleep on the most uncomfortable chairs of the world. So I didn't go to college. Consequently, my day was much more productive. Ana Paula's birthday is on Saturday, so I went with Maria (our house's maid) to the supermarket to buy things for the party. After that, I went to my mother's clinic (she's an orthodontist) and she tightened my braces, what left me in agony. When she finished, it was 11:40 am, what made me mad, since Zíper's (short for "Zíper na Boca", ("Zipped Mouth") the choir I'm in's name) rehearsal was on 12. I rushed to my house screaming and cursing the whole way, got the partitures, and then rushed to Unicamp. Arrived on the Arts Institute on 12:15, just on time to get the end of the warm-up. After it was over, on 1:40 pm, I decided to skip work too, so I came back home, had lunch and then slept off the whole afternoon. Read my e-mails before, though. What made me really happy! Hugo apologized, what made me really happy. The Harem had some pretty bad e-mail fights before, and I didn't want another one to start. Davi wrote a message remarking on the Dadaist characteristics of the Oscars thread. And I got two new Answers, what encouraged me to put these and the two other ones that Miguel and Dani wrote. By the way, I must say that Miguel's answer was one of the best ones I ever got. Danilo just told me how useless he thinks this Internet journal thing is. No thoughtful remarks this time, no sir. |
