On harshness and Perfect Women and Invisibles and songs Mar 30 98 Another fairly boring day in the life of Marcio Caparica Carlos. Went to college, watched Calculus and Physics classes, and then went downtown to try to resolve the stupid problem with my voting document. When I arrived there I found out I should have copied a bunch of documents they didn't tell me I should before, so, since I didn't have a single penny, not even to catch a bus back home, so I'll have to go back there some other day, before April 4th. Anyway. Went walking back home. The reason I was pennyless is that I couldn't resist and spent my last bucks on this month's issue of "The Invisibles". It's so good, it made walking back home worth it. Grant Morrison comes up with some pretty awesome stuff sometimes. For instance, from this month's issue: "We are engineering a generation of sick, obese passive consumers. Even the video games they obsessively play contain demoralizing subliminals. He's fucking paranoid. But I have to agree with some things he says, sometimes. During the Physics class today, while the teacher bored us out of our skulls, Davi and I made a list of the ideal women for us. She should be pretty and intelligent, or have something special that would make up for the lack of one of them. The chosen ones were: - Alanis Morissette - Tori Amos - Sharon Stone - Cindy Crawford - Natassja Kinsky - Isabelle Adjani (with honors and awed stares and very evil thoughts and hoorays!!!) - Sherilyn Fann (must prove she's intelligent so we'll stay with her longer) - Jewel - Madonna - Jamie Lee Curtis (I just can't forget that True Lies scene) - Michelle Pfeifer - Kim Basinger - Cherlize Theron (from "The Devil's Advocate") - Kate Winslet (to have a short torrid affair) - Toni Braxton (!!!!) - Sarah McLachlan (!!!!!) - Vera Fischer - Cláudia Abreu - The girl from the OB ad - Patricia Pillar - Leticia Spiller - Davi's English teacher What left us pretty desappointed, because the great majority of our perfect women don't know us (with the exception of Davi's English teacher, who already has children), and only six of them are Brazilian. Oh, well. While we were making the list, we remembered some women who wouldn't make good sexual partners, but would be great aunts. They are: Glenn Close Rita Lee Marieta Severo Fernanda Montenegro You do see we have nothing better to do at Physics classes. At the start of the choir rehearsal today our regent, Vivian, talked to us about the measures she was going to take to enforce discipline during the choir's rehearsals and trips. I do admire her, she seems to be someone who really dedicates herself to her job and music. It was interesting to see how uncomfortable she was on the harsh person role. She usually doesn't stutters or rephrases her sentences, but she did do that while she talked to us. I guess she's had problems with that, and now she wants to try to end that. Sometimes I feel like the people from the choir doesn't respect her very much. I hope they start doing it, now. It's amazing how every time I listen to Good Enough, by Sarah McLachlan, I like it better. I didn't like it until the day I had an epiphany and realized it was about child abuse (kinda when I realized that Hold On was about a guy dying). Then I saw its video, which is very beautiful, and now it touches me every time I listen to it. |
