The Biography

Cleveland, OH's W.O.T. is best tagged as a noise or Grindcore band.  They are not noise as in those Japanese noise bands that sound like children playing with Tonka trucks in a kitchen.  W.O.T. creates noise with instruments giving off a sonic resonance slightly resembling "songs".  The instruments of choice are double bass heavy drums, heavily distorted guitar and indecipherable screeching vocals.  That's not to say you can peg them that easily, because as soon as you do, they change it up, slow it down, throw in some bass, or even sing.  The changes help to give each song a fresh new sound.

W.O.T. consists of three members, all of which do vocals, guitar, or drums depending on the song.  This results in a lot of instrument changes during shows, which appears to be done to confuse the crowd.  The members of W.O.T. have also been in other bands such as Terrorism, Necropsy, Gadfly, Makeshift and Ten Cent Wings.  Coincidentally all of these groups have either changed their names or disbanded to try and erase the stigma that comes with being associated with W.O.T.  The former members now inhabit North Meadow Park, Feardown and The Paper Street Soap Co.

W.O.T. first formed on August 9, 1997.  W.O.T. will always have its original three members.  The biggest influence on the band is A.C.; others include Weird Al, old Napalm Death and any trendy groups.  The last plays the most into the lyrical content, and has led to songs such as "If It Was Up To Me..." and "Korn Chamber."  Shortly after their inception, W.O.T. released Radio Friendly, the first demo tape.  It contained such instant classics as "Princess Die" and "Buckwheat," along with a scorching rendition of A.C.'s "Kyle From Incantation Has A Mustache."  1998 was a banner year, following the success of their live shows; W.O.T. released Dragging Down The Local Scene Live, their first CD.  It was recorded live a Peabody's Down Under and was glimpse into the madness that is a W.O.T. show.  January 23, 2001, was forever scarred by the release of "Worst Of The W.O.T.", a collection of tracks culled though out the band's existence.  All releases are now out of print, but still in demand.  W.O.T. has been praised as "legends" by Peabody's security guards, for their quick songs and unique shows.

W.O.T. is a band that has to be experienced live to truly appreciate or hate.  They rely just as much on their sense of humor as on their musical prowess.  Some people get it, some don't.  As far as the band is concerned either way is good.  On June 6, 2002, W.O.T. officially disbanded, leaving the music world with a sigh of relief.  The event was marked by a glorious ceremony capped with the Hanging Of The Hats.  W.O.T. can be found on the web at wotsucks.com.
