Wait! I seem to remember that some of sgroup members have encountered
problems using off-the-shelf serial mice. Didn't somebody say that
Rolands use a proprietary mouse, and that PC mice would short the
sampler?

Anyway, I've discovered that you *don't* need the mouse to operate the
S-550. Just hold down the '1' button while switching on the power. Then
the S-550 will operate from the direction buttons.

Subject: sgroup Pin outs for S550 mouse port

*** (By the way, I'm still waiting for a reply on how to convert the
CD5 file into a SDK file for the PC) ***

Here is the pin out of the 9 pin mouse socket on the front panel of
the S550, shown in the service notes. The pin conditions are fed into
a gate array (mx) and then processed. Because this socket can also be
used by other devices (e.g. remote panel), I reckon not all pins are
read by the gate array when scanning a mouse.

When trying any mouse, the obvious pin to avoid is pin 5 (5.2V). This
probably feeds other units (e.g. remote control). There is an inline
fuse on the board for this line, which is probably what people trying
a PC mouse have blown.

Pin Fed to

1-------------- mx0 (lines marked 'mx' are fed to a gate array)
6----------- mx4
2-------------- mx1
7----------- mx5
3-------------- mx2
8----------- mx6
4-------------- mx3
9----------- Gnd
5-------------- +5.2V

Hope this is useful. Please circulate any solutions found. I will
respond to any other requests for information from the service notes.

Subject: sgroup Pin-Out for S550 Mouse/controller

I remember seeing someone post the pin-out config for the S550
mouse/controller output. Would whomever posted it please re-post it, or
indicate where I might be able to find it?

Thanks!
