Former Flint keyboardist Doug Cherokee's move to Britain includes a move from the renegade sounds of Flint to Brit-pop music of the new band he founded, Tartan Joy. Despite his unceremonious departure from Flint, Cherokee has managed to keep in touch with some Flint fans and sent over a copy of the Tartan Joy EP 'Kiltwearing' for me to review. Those fans expecting to hear Flint songs in a stodgy accent will be disappointed as the direction Cherokee takes Tartan Joy is a far cry from Juwan Pilgrim and Cody Jackson's pessimistic view of a belligerent world. One British reviewer has called Tartan Joy 'like a ham sandwich when you are very hungry' and deemed Cherokee 'a Howard Jones for the Nineties'. A full-length Tartan Joy album will be out in the near future to conveniently follow Flint's expected September 30th release of their first full-length album. Songs from 'Kiltwearing' will soon be sampled on my Flint website...
