BANGKOK(WS) - Things could have been worse for Doug Cherokee. Cherokee, a member of popular local band Flint, spent a night in jail during a routine vacation to Thailand. He was found to be in possession of Viagara, a drug designed to solve impotency problems in aged men but now gaining popularity with the twenty-something crowd because of the drug's powerful, stimulating side-effects. In the town of Ubon Ratchathani in central Thailand, a female undercover officer returned with Cherokee to his hotel room. Cherokee was charged with possession of a harmful narcotic, which is punishable in Thailand by ten years in prison as well as the forfeiture of four fingers. The situation was straightened out when a prescription was faxed by Cherokee's doctor to Thai officials and Cherokee was released.
Cherokee's lawyer, Lucky Baggio, said of the situation, "This is an outrage! Doug was caught in an illegal sting operation for a prescription drug he was taking in order to maintain an acceptable standard of good health." Cherokee had no comment on the matter when reached at his apartment in St. Titosburg but Flint bandmate Cody Jackson did. "As a friend I'm happy Doug is back in St. Titosburg. As my keyboard player, I'm happy Doug still has all his fingers."
