What can I say ! Manchester was good but this was even better. So much good stuff to say about it so I'll start at the start and work my way to the end. Stirling Castle , amazing place for a gig , in a castle esplanade at the top of a hill with a 360 degree view for miles right round, just the right setting for the best band in the world. Feeder were the support band and they did a good job of warming everbody up, with a certain Scott Mccaughey stood at the side watching the first two numbers.
Then about 10 minutes before R.E.M. came on a crowd of people went to the side of the stage to watch the gig and I'm certain it must have been them with them were Zoe and Zelda Buck. Mucho amazed to see them there with eardefenders on. One of the roadies then took a small cuddly toy of theirs and stuck it to Mike Mills keyboard. Then somebody took a photo of this , I think it was Peters wife but couldnt be certain.
Right on to the gig itself. Airportman to start , then Lotus and then The Wake Up Bomb to get us going. Started to rain about this time and Michael said this was the coldest he had been since February. Lots of laughs from the crowd as we were all boiling alive with jumping about.
Michael did the Highland Fling at one point which went down a storm with the audience, and he commented on how great our Scotch Whiskey is. Somebody threw a baseball cap onto the stage , which Michael noticed and a fair amount of teasing went on about this , and Michael eventually threw it back to them even although they wanted him to wear it. He joked that it might have headlice which again went down well.
Best song of the gig for me was Sweetness Follows, it didnt start out too well, very bassy sound that I felt muffled the song, but about halfway through Peter started to get right into the song , and was up beside the drum stack creating a right mess of feedback.
Oldest song played, was again Fall On Me which was just as good as at Manchester. Star 69 wasnt played this time , which was a shame as I felt this was the best song at manchester.
Anyway to sum it up , great gig that wasn't dampened at all by the constant rain (it was actually quite good, as it kept everybody cooled down) .
