Marc Anthony

Marco Antonio Muniz is who we all know as one of Salsa's most captivating and innovative perfromers. Born on September 15, 1969 in New York City,Marc was influenced early by his father Felipe who was a Puerto -Rican jibaro guitarist. Marc was raised in a tough neighbourhood in East Harlem, where Salsa could often be heard as well as other types of music which appealed more to the younger Marc as he once admitted,"I would walk down third avenue and out of one window I could hear Ruben Blades' music, while Gloria Gaynor came blasting out another and Doobie Brothers sounds from the window of a passing car's stereo. But to be honest with you, I never liked salsa because it didn't cater to the younger generation. And I couldn't relate to it. I thought it was uncool."

At a young age Marc's father taught him how to compose and appreciate music, which had a lasting influence on Marc and his decision to pursue a musical carreer. As well his household was always filled with the classic sounds of Salsa, like Willie Colon, Hector Lavoe, etc,..Marc claims that he "was born to be a singer," and that singing "has never been a question for," him. At the young age of only 12 years old, Marc and his sister were discovered by David Harris while singing the Mickey Mouse tune and provided back up vocals for many productions and commercials over several years. In high school Marc started writting songs, one,"Boy, I've Been Told" a friend and artist named Sa-Fire used and recorded on one of her Dance tracks. Marc also wrote two other songs and sang most of the backup vocals for her album, while "Boy, I've Been told" became a Top 40 single in the US.
