Deadnight Warriors:
Malefactors:
"A vampire and a necromancer walk into a narrow street..." Yes, this scenario was the infamous Mordheim Streetfight. Possibly the quintessential Mordheim battle, this encounter is a simple matter of two warbands running into each other while on their way somewhere and having a fight over the right of way, more or less as a matter of principle. We took an end of the street each, and started walking.
The Malefactors split up and melted into the surroundings as soon as they saw the Deadnight Warriors approaching, but Valdimir's mob appear to be finally learning some tactics and didn't fall for it. Ranked in a solid double line across the width of the street, they simply advanced at a slow walk. The Malefactors appeared confused, clearly wondering where the disreputable hordes of the undead had suddenly found this degree of discipline, but they quickly pulled themselves together and came on regardless. Valdimir and Skaros exchanged bowshots, but the arrows skittered harmlessly into the dust.
The Malefactors eventually broke the standoff when a couple of cultists came forward and charged Valdimir, who promptly laid one of them out with a sweeping blow from his halberd. The second cultist hit back with all his strength and managed to unbalance the vampire, who stumbled and fell. In the time it took him to pick himself up the dreaded Possessed Cerulus had found the opportunity to charge in and before Valdimir could properly recover himself Cerulus had put him out of the fight altogether. The monster then turned his attention to Mage, while the remaining lackeys of the loathsome chaos-magus picked their adversaries from among those of the Deadnight Warriors who were closest. Hans was struck down by a cultist, but by way of revenge Arak succeeded in knocking down the cultist who had dealt the coup de grace to Valdimir moments earlier. Pagan managed to get in a crushing bite to the fallen warrior's skull, claiming his first kill as a Hero.
However, this brief glimmer of hope for my warriors did not last. The scuffle went on for a couple more turns, but after Arak was felled by a lucky shot from Skaros' bow and Mage and Friedrich were both struck down, the resultant loss of leadership told heavily against the Deadnight Warriors and they were driven into a humiliating rout. Again. Sigh...
Theoretically Valdimir should have missed the next game due to the severity of his injuries, but Desade was feeling generous and offered to let me field him anyway if I wished. I accepted, justifying this small cheat to myself by pointing out that vampires have legendary recuperative powers, and we proceeded to make ready for a rematch!
