Bee Gee Tries New Rap For Rehab Center

Miami Beach resident Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees spends much of his time making music. But on Saturdays -- like clockwork -- Gibb runs a rap session at New Life, a Miami drug and alcohol rehab center where he underwent treatment for alcoholism.

One of the program's directors is Ken Pomerance, a recovering drug addict whose dad is former Miami Beach Police Chief Rocky Pomerance. ("I never had a drug of choice," says Pomerance, 39. "I used everything -- and drank like a fish." He says he's been clean for almost 10 years.)

Gibb, 42, went into rehab Oct. 8. "I had a month's binge before that," said Gibb, who's battled the bottle since he was 25.

During his four-month stay at New Life, Gibb made his bed daily, did 6:30 a.m. wake-up duty, put on the decaf, and led a "spiritual fellowship" group. Gibb "commenced" on Feb. 23 -- the day his son Adam turned 16. That day, Gibb and his wife, Yvonne, 41, renewed their vows in a catered, backyard ceremony at their waterfront Beach home. Among the 100 guests were several patients and New Life staffers. Adam was best man, and daughter Samantha, 12, was maid of honor. The couple toasted with nonalcoholic wine.

Gibb said he loves the Saturday sessions at the center: "The most important thing about recovery is to pass the message on." At 7 p.m. Wednesday on WTVJ-Channel 4, he's scheduled to appear on Entertainment Tonight to discuss his struggle.
