History
In Flames was formed back in 1990 in Gothenburg, Sweden. They started to play their own kind of music, mixing Death Metal with northern folk's sound. In the beginning, the name In Flames was not used until 1993 where there were some line-up changes and the adopted the name In Flames for the new line-up. In the same year, they entered the studio (Studio Fredman) to record their first promo - Promo-93. This promo contains three songs which are "In Flames", "Upon an Oaken Throne" and "Clad in Shadows". With this promo, they caught the attention of Swedish independent label, Wrong Again Records and they released their first full lenght, "Lunar Strain". This release was released in August 1994 and contains ten songs.
The mini EP "Subterranean" was released in December 1994 witth four brand new song. These four songs appeared in the Japanese version of "Lunar Strain" which also featured a Metallica's cover song by In Flames which originally appeared in the "Metal Militia", a tribute to Metallica. In Late 1995, they recorded the superb album, "The Jester Race" which was released in 1996. Featured a new vocalist, Anders Friden (ex-Dark Tranquility). This album is yet the best album from In Flames.
1997 saw the birth of a new shaped like CD, "Black Ash Inheritance" It contains four songs with one of them is live song. In the same year, In Flames entered again the infamous Studio Fredman to record a new eleven track album which was called "Whoracle". After the release of this album, two of their members left the band but the replacement was quickliy drafted in. Some of their previous songs were also featured in various compilation. In Flames also have appeared in a video by Nuclear Blast which also featured Darkseed and Evereve entitled "Nuclear Blast, Live and Plugged".
