the others - in a nutshell
(as if you cared)

the others began actually under the name of 'venera' and was the best rip-off of nirvana you would never want to hear. it was founded by 3 people, Eryk Bateman , Clay Lancaster, and Jacob Brown. It was originally just a way for these 3 scamps to distract each other (this was in about oh... febuary '95 and we were all in 7th grade). Distraction was important seeing as how school needed to be avoided at all costs.

So the band was formed, and shortly (as if 2 guitars weren't enough) another person joined name Mikey (my-kee) Rosa. That left everyone except me playing guitars (out of tiny ass amps mind you). Well, if you havn't left yet, i'll cut to the good part- mikey quit quickly, we found Kenn (i asked 'who's the best guitar player in guitar class' and they answered 'kenn', so I said 'lets get him'. incidentally he got 2 offers from other bands right after he agreed to join us.) and Kenn joined. Jacob soon left to go join Mikey (with no drummer???) and it was just me, clay, and kenn (fuck you english people, i'll use 'me' wherever i want to). Anyways, throughout this entire time we had had regular practices (which is the key to having a good band). So, we were still into it. So this guy, Greg Corso, started harrasing us because he wanted to sing. Well, we let him join and we practiced for several months together. Everything before this transpired in about 2 months. At the end of 7th grade ('95) we cut our first album. It was in a garage, i got some guy from my (shortly to be) ex-church to record us in his garage real time with his 16 track mixer (for which he had 4 mics). This debacle was dubiousley called Plastic Punk (thanks greg, really). Well, we dont like to dwell on that one. Anyways, greg left after that shortly (a good thing too, because greg was about to get a visit from good ol' MR. PUBERTY, and SOMEONES voice COMPLETELY went to hell.)

So for some reason we liked the 4 member thingy, but we thought we'd try something new and get a (gasp) BASSIST! So, after about 2 secconds of searching we found good old Matt Cuchairo. He had a 'memphis' bass, which was smaller than our guitars. It had about as much sound to it too. Anyways, matt stayed with us for about 5 months, and quit RIGHT BEFORE (thanx for leaving us hanging there matt) we cut our SECCOND album, stalk exchange (which we have decided isn't as bad as we though it was after we stopped liking it). This one was recorded at an actualy studio and arguably has really good sound. As for the music... i can stand about 3 tracks off the thing, so its okay.

This was cut about febuary '96, and was about when we switched to 'the others' (mainly because without matt it was a new band). Well, when matt left... we decided we didn't like him (he got better later, but we'd never let him back) and we went out to replace him. It was easier done than said, for in like... 2 days we had him replaced with (enter) PETER THATCH. Peter had an ACTUAL ibanez bass (full sized too!) Well, peter stuck with us, and that is the current set up. With the entrance of peter we gained a) an actual good bass sound b) an audible bass line c) SKILLED BASS-LINES?? d) a nice quiet young lad who everyone has decided is a sex god and has gained us all of the popularity we have with his dashing good looks (no on in danville has taste)

Recently we cut another album, this one is self titled. Well, our general consensus is that this album kicks ass (compared to everything else we've done). What is really good is the songs we are making now that it is over and recorded with, well.. they are really tight together, we can actually remember orders, they're really complex... and most of all they sound good, and we play them well.

What really makes me feel that we've changed as a band, is ever since peter joined and we made the new album, sometimes we'll be playing together, and i'll just start smilling and i'm really happy inside. that is proabably the one point in existance i am happy is when i feel that little bit of joy errupting from my stomach, the feeling 'this is awesome'. What really makes it even more special is the fact that sometimes i'll look at someone else in the band right as i feel this eruption of joy, and they're smiling back. (proabably laughing AT me, but oh well)

Thats our story (in a nutshell). Email me if you want more...
