Review of the others 6-17-98 by eryk bateman
Well, i got us this concert by offering use of my p.a. and self to run the p.a. to the kids who were running it. In return we got 20 minutes of playing time, and opened. i guess thats fair, it was their concert and we could have easily said no... oh well.
so anyways, the concert took place at the warm springs (fremont) community church down the street from my housing complex a good 4 miles or something like that. so we showed up extra early (as usually we were afraid of our horrid tendancies to completely mess up any time-table). we dropped off about half of our stuff, then kenn and i went back to my house to pick up the rest (after grabbing friends tara and marci from my school). so we went back to my house, grabbed the rest of the stuff, came back, and lo and behold peter and scott are nowhere to be found. so, we finished setting up, and peter and scott magically appear with mcdonalds (and none for us!). grrr... good thing we had 40 minutes left. so yeah, then kenn and scott had to run back to my house for stix, came back just in the nick of time for us to start 10 minutes early to account for our 20 minute set.
we started with our cover of the power rangers opening song (the one from the FIRST movie, with the verse added) and that was more or less a sound check. that kinda brought people in from wherever they were hiding (this church was set up like a business plant with cubicles....hmmmm....) and about 80 people were in the room by the time we finished. then we started the whole thing off with in the ivy. here is the WHOLE setlist:
- in the ivy
- funk
- incest
- dropped
- peace in my mind
- if i could
funk and incest had never been played in front of an audience before, (they had only been played once or twice with us) so we thought they went quite well. dropped was cool, but i got pissed at the main group of the audience that was in the back facing away from us, CHATTING as if they had a right! :) so i started singing about/to them. they didn't get it. peace in my mind was cool except i couldn't sing the high notes, my throat was dieing. if i could was fun, we (of course) let the audience know that peter was available afterwards for phone number exchanges and/or escort service to the nearest bedroom.
all in all it was a good concert. i think battle of the bands was a little better, but still a good concert.
