11/03/98 KBCO Studios - Boulder, Colorado
Driver, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Possum*, Roggae
Entire set was played acoustic.
* - With a tight, short, and groovy jam.
Played between about 4:30 pm and 5:00 pm for KBCO's "Studio C" series, where musicians coming to the Denver area
perform live on the radio and chat about their career, current album, tour, etc. KBCO can be found at 97.3 on your FM
dial in the Denver area. An audience was definitely clapping in the background; it would appear that some lucky fans got
to watch the show in the studio. The show was presumably in promotion of Phish's show on 11-04-98, the next day.
Among the topics discussed were radio ("Radio will be saved by playing more Phish" and "I like radio...it's just bad
music on the radio that's the problem," said Trey.), commercial success ("I think it's a little late for that...[laughs]..."I don't
think we have to worry about that," said Trey.), and the 1996 Red Rocks scuffle ("It was really a non-event," said Mike.
Trey noted that part of the problem may have been the lack of official camping, and that the 3 summer festivals, with
70,000 Phish fans in one place, were almost entirely free of trouble and arrests.) Trey also mentioned that the band
sends security personnel "several months in advance" to every venue they play to scope out the situation and develop
plans for preventing trouble. Additionally, Trey jokingly mentioned that Red Rocks has invited them back, and
they will be playing a five-night stand there in the summer of 1999. Trey also plugged "The Story of the Ghost"
repeatedly, in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, similar to the statement about a 5 night stand at Red Rocks.
