myth = the word myth is used throught this page to mean a story of religious nature with meanings on many levels. I am not using it to mean "a fictitious or imaginary person or thing." The myths and legends told by early Scandinavians are no more fictitious than the Christian Bible. I do not intend to put down the Bible in any way, but rather I wish to acknowledge that both the Bible and, for instance, the Eddas have meanings on more than one level. Whether one believes in the actual story being told, it still has a purpose in establishing certain moral and cultural guidelines for a society. The only difference between religion and mythology is that mythologies are no longer generally accepted beliefs in the world today.
