Hey Collective Soul fans! If you haven't heard, Ed, Dean, Will
Ross and Shane will be heading up to Rome, NY this summer for
Woodstock '99! About 250,000 fans are expected to descend upon
the festival grounds -- which lie about 50 miles west of Albany
-- for the July 23-25 event. Collective Soul will be joined by
Sugar Ray, Jewel, Everlast, Rage Against The Machine, The Dave
Matthews Band, Metallica, Counting Crows, The Red Hot Chili
Peppers, Alanis Morissette, The Offspring, Foo Fighters, Fatboy
Slim, and many others. Organizers are preparing an upscale
musical tent city with two main stages, a technology park, beer
gardens, all-night raves, a film festival, experimental theater,
a hospital, 2,000 portable toilets, and 240 acres of
campgrounds. They are not, however, planning on rain. The
event has been moved from its usual August time slot to July,
which U.S. Weather Bureau statistics deems drier in that area.
Tickets for the event, which go for a cool $150 dollars, go on
sale Sunday, April 25, and they can be purchased online at
http://www.ticketmaster.com. For those who can't afford to drop
that kind of cash, or can't make it to the northeast, the event
will be webcast. A CD, pay-per-view special and homevideo will
also be available.

Speaking of Collective Soul and music festivals, Guitar magazine
caught up with the band during what was supposed to be the
soundcheck for a recent radio festival gig at Atlanta's Fox
Theater. The soundcheck never happened (due to a certain
headliner arriving late), but that left journalist Bob Gulla
plenty of time to chat with Collective Soul about their new
album "DOSAGE" -- which he calls their "most adventurous and
accomplished album to date" -- and particularly their distinct,
three guitar attack. In the article Gulla describes lead
guitarist Ross Childress as "a manic improviser ready and able
to explode at any given moment," adding that "onstage, he's
nimble and superfast -- a gifted talent in a sea of
mediocrity." The feature also includes a sidebar which focuses
on Childress' use of the E-Bow, a hand-held, electro-magnetic
effects device capable of creating unique sounds (ranging from
orchestral to animal) when manipulated over guitar strings.

Collective Soul continue to bring their sizzling live show to
clubs across the country. In our last mailing, we said that we
wanted some feedback from those of you who have been to a recent
Collective Soul show, and the response has been overwhelming!
Keep sending in those reports (a short paragraph or two will do)
from Collective Soul shows, and keep a look out on the Atlantic
site for the first posting in the coming days. Remember, if we
post your report, you'll get the CD of your choice from the
Atlantic store, on us! Collective Soul still have many dates
left on their Spring/Summer tour (see complete listing below),
so find out when they're coming to a town near you, and get
ready to rock!

Finally, we have a correction to make. In the last mailing it
was stated that Collective Soul would be appearing on the April
15th episode of HBO's "Reverb." In actuality, the episode was
taped on April 15th for a later broadcast. We will let you know
when the concert will air as soon as a time slot is confirmed.
In the meantime, you can check out the band performing their
current hits "Heavy" and "Run" live on the season finale of
"Beverly Hills 90210," airing on May 19th. "Run" will also be
featured on next week's episode of "Dawson's Creek."

If you would like to become a weekly subscriber to Collective Soul's
letter, then send an email with only the word "subscribe" as the
subject of the message to collectivesoul@atlantic-records.com.
