Short Review:
'Happy Birthday' is usually credited as Altered Images best album, this I will have to disagree with. The reason this album it rated so highly I believe is due on the popularity of the title track, but little is made of the fact all the other tracks on the album are recorded with Steve Severin from Siouxsie and the Banshees fame as producer, which tends to give the album a more gloomy/gothic sound that people would expect from the Martin Rushent (also producer of Human League 'Dare') produced 'Happy Birthday' single. The Steve Severin produced tracks are a bit lighter then the first two singles 'Dead Pop Stars' and 'A Days Wait' making this album a more transitional recorded, this is the problem, its an album if recorded six month earlier or later, may have been more settled. Also something has to be said about the album lyriclly, 'Dead Pop Stars' was a great song, lyriclly superb, but some of the lines that come out of this record 'Dark cupboard with my great big cake' or the uncomforting 'Rape on sunday is a terrible thing', sorry but are really useless. 7/10

Short Review:
'Pinky Blue' in my view, is the best Altered Images album, not only that, but one of the best pop albums I've heard. The album seems to be able to mix power pop tunes with Clare Grogan best singing performance to form a more mature pop sound. I would like to state from the start that the cover of Neil Diamond's 'Song Sung Blue' is a mistake, but apart from that one track, each song seems to be a single within it self, each one you can find something exciting about. The two songs I will pick out are 'Forgotten', which features a wonderful energetic verse, which then breaks in to a chorus which seems to be a battle between Clares singing and the backing music. The other song 'Think that it might', possible Clares greatest vocal on the album, a superb dreamy landscape of a song. 'Pinky Blue' was produced by Martin Rushent, and only by Martin Rushent, which makes this the only constant Altered Images album, if only 'Bite' and 'Happy Birthday' was produced by him, or at least could they have been produced by an alone producer. And last but not least harmless lyrics, hoo-ray.10/10

Bite - EPC 25413 (UK chart 12)
Tracks:
1. Bring Me Closer
2. Another Lost Look
3. Love To Stay
4. Now That You're Here
5. Don't Talk To Me About Love
6. Stand So Quiet
7. Change Of Heart
8. Thinking About You

Short Review:
Getting Mike Chapman to produce 'Bite' was a sound idea, hoping that it could give a more mature disco sound. The only thing is he only produces four of the eight tracks on the album, all of which was released as singles. The other four tracks where produced by Tony Visconti, making the album sound more like two different E.Ps then one album. The Mike Chapman tracks are great, managing to mix a Blondie-disco style to Altered Images sound, the Tony Visconti tracks are not as good, apart from 'Now that you're here' which seems to sound like Bjork, tens years early. 7/10
