Brain Trust releases new tape

By Susan DiGeronimo

'Who Are They' offers slices of Brain Trust's witty take on life, set to a screaming, metalesque soundtrack.

Local band's Brain Trust's aptly titled new tape "Who Are They?" is a scream.

and I mean that literally.

Clawing guitars, swiling synthesizer, searing vocals and pounding drums work together to produce a great six tracks of industrial-inflected, thrash-influenced music.

Five of the six tracks on the tape - "Who Are They?", "Attack of the Giant Leeches", "Jeffrey's Fridge" and "Soldier of Fortune" are original tunes credited to Brain Trust. The remaining track is a cover of Iggy Pop's "Dirt".

"Who Are They?" offers slices of Brain Trust's witty take on life, set to a screaming metalesque soundtrack. They quote everyone from "sesame Street's" Louis ("One of these people is not like the others..." in "Soldier of Fortune") to B-movie lines ("Look! There's another one over there!" in "Attach of the Giant Leeches").

Eric Stanway's anguished vocals cut to the bone, staright the swirking pulsing sound produced by guitar (Stanway and Charles Jowett), bass (Chuck Cronis) and synthesizers (Jowett). Drummer Tom Monaghan keeps his ear on the bottom line and keeps the band together as they rage through their tunes.
