Jewel gave me a reality check one day when I settled down to the daily ritual of MTV watching. A newcomer, they said, but what a song. "Who will save your soul?" The question perplexed me for hours, ringing through my hollowed mind. It reminded me of mortality simultaneously soothing my pain. The "Pieces of You" album was my next purchase. I listened to every song, played it through twice even. Words that meant something.... such a blessing. It's hard to believe that a person I don't even know could touch me with these self proclaimed "stupid songs" but she did. After some internet searching, I bought the poetry book (talk about an adrenaline rush). I read it cover to cover within 2 hours. Thoughts on paper, captured to near perfection.
There is no way to measure how much a single person can influence a life. Jewel Kilcher has touched upon the basis of everything in my life with just her words, I can't imagine what she'd do if she knew me personally.
So there it is, what Jewel's words and music mean to me. What do they mean to you?
