There was once a tranquil forest. All the animals lived and played
peacefully and happily. In the middle of the forest was a glade with
two majestic trees growing into the sky. One of the trees was a birch
tree and one was a beech tree. One day a tiny sapling sprouted up right
between the two trees. It was perfectly spaced in the center between
the trees. The birch tree gazed down at the sapling and proudly said
"Ah, there grows the son of a birch!" And the beech tree replied, "Why
you are mistaken! There grows the son of a beech!" This started a
terrible argument until the trees were both screaming!! "Son of a
Birch!" "Son of a Beech!" "Son of a Birch!" "Son of a Beech!!"
The animals were very distraught..the peaceful forest was filled with
the roars of the trees..on and on.."Son of a Birch!" "Son of a Beech"!!
They knew that they must do something..so they asked the trees if they
would both accept an expert`s opinion on the species of the sapling
tree. The Birch and Beech trees agreed to let an expert decide. The
animals called in Woody the Woodpecker. He flew all round the sapling
and viewed it from all angles. Then he pecked at the sapling a few
times, pecked then some more and then flew into the trees with a smile.
"Well??" they all asked, "Is it the Son of a Beech or the Son of a
Birch??"
Woody replied with a grin, "Neither one!! It`s the best piece of Ash
I`ve ever put my pecker in!!!!!"
