If never did I get to you,
At least did I come close.
If never was I close to you,
At least, for then, I tried.
If never did I try for you,
At least I wanted to.
If never had I wanted you,
Perhaps I would have died.
PUBLICATION: Vortex, mid-June, East High School
HISTORY: I wrote this one at school, shortly before a rehearsal
for the Class of '94 graduation ceremony.
My feelings for this one girl, whom I had only known for four
months before her graduation, were: "Gee, too bad we didn't meet
sooner so that we could have been good friends. Oh, well; at least
I knew her for a little while." The poem took off from that
thought.
For more info on my interaction with this girl, see
