Movie Extra
I
exhausted part of my "15 minutes-of-fame" quota by walking down
a flight of steps dressed in business attire on Howe Street in downtown
Vancouver during the filming of the "Avatar" episode, shot in
March 1996. One of the 3 pedestrian cameos literally took what seemed like 10 takes - a
simple scene requiring ~6 of us to amble in various directions while Mulder
and Scully walked and talked down the steps to their car - a 5 second scene
in real time. 30 munutes later after the 8th take a perturbed Fox
sarcastically bellowed "Action?!"
to the film crew. My role was to wait behind the two stars, wait 5 seconds, then
navigate the steps en route to the sidewalk.
My first sighting of Gillian Anderson earlier that day at 9 a.m. was quite
a shocker. She's very attractive from the living room, however my first impression
of the redhead in person was less than stunning, as she
appeared on set with a cigarette in one hand and a LARGE Starbucks coffee in the other...v e r y sexy! All and all it was worth the ~120
greenbacks for a day's "work" of primarily eating pastries
with 20 other extras watching TV in a hotel room awaiting the
next shoot. Long Live Hollywood North!
