TEXAS scene report :

*-* Austin * * * * **

(it’s wintering)

Howdy folks, I’m here to give you a little scene report of Austin, Texas, and perhaps some bands of nearby areas as well. I’ve just been here for 3 months so I don’t know really a lot about the local scene and stuff… moreover I seem to spend most of my time in my room. So, a great BIG thanks to Mark (Pants) and his friends for helping me out with this report so graciously!

Mark once told me that the music scene (that is, counting only the types of music most of you kids are generally interested in) here in Austin are mostly made up of emo bands and kids. Think Mineral! However, most of the bands I’ve gathered info on are heavy as hell stuff … like Fall Into The Sear & Yellow Leaf who are a growling, ultra heavy newschool hardcore thing! They have a 7" out on Watership Records, so go get it if you’re into such stuff. Contact FITSAYL at: FITSAYL

816 Elmridge

Tyler, TX 75703

I don’t know if Watership Records are still running, but their address is: Watership Records

PO Box 68 4734

Austin TX 78768

Brick is this very very fast, mad 30 second old school hardcore from Austin! And they sound rad to me! They have a 7" out on Little Deputy Records, it’s pretty damn good. The vocalist of Brick, Noble, also sings for "Austin XHardcoreX" band New Year, who are straight edge chugga-chugga style hardcore I think. I haven’t got to hear them yet, but they’re playing this coming Friday with Turmoil, Today Is The Day, Frodus and Roadside Monument! Contact Brick or New Year at:

Noble

I think Little Deputy Records puts out mostly garage bands, so if you’re into that write for a catalog at:

Little Deputy Records

PO Box 7066,

Austin TX 78713 - 7066

If you like crust-grind hardcore punk, you must check out Terminal Disgust, who have an LP out called The Price Of War. They are vegan and have very political lyrics! Contact Tony

206 N. Ravinia

Dallas, TX 75211

Okay, Slave 1 are this awesome ultra heavy screamy hardcore band, I’ve only heard 1 and a half song of theirs but they sound kinda akin to Acme! And you all know Acme rules, right, so check out Slave 1 immediately… unfortunately I don’t know if they have any releases yet, but Jester East Records are about to put out their 7" soon, hopefully by January. Also, hopefully, Rahmat and Reinforce Distro in Singapore is gonna distribute some of that when it’s out, so look out for it. Write Slave 1 for more fun: Slave 1

PO Box 123951

Ft. Worth TX 76121

Jester East Records is a new record label run by Mark and his friends at their Jester East Dorms room! Write them for more info, ‘cos they’re nice, at

Jester East Records are also gonna put out Yellow Road Priest, a progressive, driving HC band with screaming passionate vocals! It could come out by next March or April.

N-Astatic City is the up & coming new ‘hip’ band in the scene - "driving emo with impassioned vocals, driving rock n roll" towards something, in their own words. So write them at: N-Astatic City

4010 / B Speedway

Austin TX 78751

And finally, an emo band! At The Drive-In is tha best jangly poppy emo band around with an incredible vocalist. Their live shows are supposed to be the amazing, the vocalist jumps around and what not. And their CD rules pretty much as well. A must have for all you emo loving kids… At The Drive-In

OK enough of music already! Zines and the COMIC sorts are much more fun, so here’s a very minimal list of some good stuff!

Terrifying Steamboat Stories

I think this is a rad comic.

According to my friend <replicant> "it is kindfa wiered in tha 2 dimensional sense where beautiful pictures get parodied into sins like suupposedly known funniness"
