Tour stories from fans
I met Warrior Soul in November 1991 in Sioux Falls, SD. It was very very cold that day, but I stood outside hoping for autographs. Bingo! The guys signed my tape sleeves. The concert was great. Kory invited me to come backstage during Queensryche's set. The arena is also used for sporting and other events, so the backstage room was a locker room, complete with wooden bench in the floor by the lockers. Most people sat on metal folding chairs. Some contest winners were also back there, some radio people getting some promo materials signed, etc. for a while. I don't remember how many people were back there, but I don't think the contest winners got to stay for the whole Q set. We all talked and laughed and clowned around, snitching food from the spread backstage. I'll never forget how Silent Lucidity (the encore) sounded from the backstage. Wow. What a trip. I took some photos backstage and will post them.... when I get a scanner or when I can find someone who has one.
After Q's set, Kory and I went for a drink at the bar in the Holiday Inn across the street and ended up talking for about three more hours. Books, his trials with the record company, life in general, music, inspiration, everything under the sun. It was a really great night, one I'll prob. never forget!
Recall, if you will, that this was during the Drugs, God tour. "Hero" was out and on eMpTV. Drugs God is my favorite Warrior Soul album and always will be. Lyrically, musically, and personally.
The second time I saw Warrior Soul was a year later, if I remember the date right. I know it was December, because again, it was colder than your deep-freeze outside. This show was at the Seventh Street Entry in Minneapolis. I got to watch sound check before the show because I was going to write up a little review for the band's fan club, so I wanted to be there very early.
I took some photos... I only wish I would have had a better camera. I got everyone to sign the pictures I'd taken backstage a year earlier as well as the VINYL of Drugs God that I had found on my vacation to Spain during the summer of 1992. Let me tell you, it looks VERY cool with all that handwriting all over it. Someday, I'll scan and post it....
The show was incredible. I was in the front row, center, and the stage only was as high as my shin, so I was just a couple of feet from the band. What a trip. It was unbelievable. They just rocked. And all of the guys were so nice to hang out and talk with. I went backstage afterward briefly and got a couple more pictures for the archives.
Other tour story submissions, anyone?
I would especially love to hear about Pure 13 and Space Age Playboys, or anyone who has seen the guys play in other bands after the breakup of Warrior Soul. I'd love also to hear stories about the shows in the UK. I hear that they're just NUTS! (Lotsa fun.)
