Chapter Ten: Best of Friends

One week later

"Leigh! It's so good to see you!" said the producer of "The Sun and the Moon."

Leigh smiled. Andy Huston had seen her in a play at school and decided she should be the new unknown in his next movie.

"Hello Mr. Huston," Leigh said.

"Let me show you to your trailer," Andy said. "We'll have a quick reading of the script as soon as the leading man gets here."

"Okay. I'll read it again until he gets here," Leigh said. "Who is he by the way?"

"Nick Carter," Andy said. Leigh's face went pale. "You a fan?"

"You could say that," Leigh said.

"He'll be here soon," Andy said.

Leigh sat in her trailer trying to read the script and figure out her feelings at the same time. The story was interesting. She played the younger sister of a wide receiver on a college football team. She falls in love with her brother's best friend, the quarterback. In a night of drunken stupor, they sleep together and she gets pregnant. They get married, but the baby miscarries. She leaves him because she doesn't think he loves her, but he finally shows his feelings for her and it ends with them back together.

After about an hour, there was a knock on her trailer door. "Hello?"

Andy peeked in. "Nick's here."

She slowly walked out of her trailer and was shocked to see not only Nick, but Brian and AJ also.

"Leigh!" AJ exclaimed, running to hug her.

"AJ!" Leigh said. "Purple looks good."

AJ ran his hand through his hair and said, "I like it myself."

"Are you staying for filming?" Leigh asked.

"No way! I'm going to see my Grace," AJ said. "Then I'll come back. I think I'll bring Grace with me. You guys would get along really well."

"Leigh. Aren't you gonna say hi to me?" Brian pouted.

"Hi Brian," Leigh said, turning to hug him. "How are you? How's Dallas?"

"Good, good," Brian said. "We didn't know you were an actress."

"This is my first movie," Leigh said. "Or more like my first everything."

She looked at Nick. Their eyes met and she couldn't move for a second. "Hi Nick," she finally said.

"Hi," he said.

She walked toward him. "Can I hug you too?"

Nick cracked a smile. "Would you please?"

They embraced. Neither of them wanted to let go. "So are you my quarterback?" Leigh asked, after they pulled apart.

"Could you suggest someone better?" Nick asked.

"Jake Plummer, you know a real quarterback," Leigh said. "By the way, it's good to see you."

"You too," Nick said. "I've been wanting to talk to you."

"Anytime you want," Leigh said. "I'll be around."

"So we're friends?" Nick asked.

"The best of friends," Leigh said. "Or whatever else we should choose to become."

Friends they were and friends they stayed. Leigh tried to kill the feeligns that she had for Nick, but everytime he smiled, she fell in love with him a little more. Everytime he spoke to her, her heart beat a little quicker. She acted normal. Uninterested in any of the guys around her, but on the inside she was dying for Nick to say that night wasn't a mistake.

Nick craved Leigh. She was so normal. She didn't make him feel like some master of the universe who must be bowed down to. She called him names. She argued with him. She watched football with him. But she also seemed distant. He wished he could take back that night on one hand, but on the other it had been a wish fulfilled.

So both of them went through the film shoot, acting as if they were only friends, yet both desperately wanting to be so much more."
