Chapter Six: Ups and Downs

"Lets hit the red one now!" Nick demanded.

"Alright," Leigh said. "C'mon."

She led Nick, Brian, and Dallas to the red one, Viper. With seven loops, it was easily one of the best roller coasters around.

"That looks so dope," Nick said.

"It is dope," Leigh said. "Lets get in line."

They fell into the line. Dallas and Brian once again commenced in making out. It bothered Nick that Brian could make out in front of Leigh. Leigh probably nothing to Brian. A fall-back.

Of course Leigh didn't seem bothered. But then, Leigh was devoting most of her attention to Nick. I'll just pretend I never saw them kissing, Nick thought. At least for today.

Near the end of the line, Brian said, "You know, why don't you guys just go. I'll wait for you."

"Oh come on," Dallas said.

"Yeah Frick, don't be a chicken," Nick said.

"Shut up Carter," Brian said, yanking his head toward a group of apparent teenyboppers. But Nick didn't get the point.

"B-Rok just get on-" NIck was saying, until Leigh kissed him. Passionately.

"Thank you," Nick smiled, when Leigh pulled away. "That was nice."

Leigh blushed. "Thanks I guess. But try not to stick out like a sore thumb."

"Oh," Nick said, as they boarded the coaster. No girl had ever kissed him like that. But she was only trying to keep a disguise.

"It was nice Nick," Leigh said, taking his right hand in both of hers.

Nick smiled to himself. Leigh had feelings for him too. And since Brian was obviously still with Dallas, he had every right to get to know Leigh better.

Nick stepped off the coaster with a bounce in his step.

"How can a roller coaster make you so happy?" Brian asked.

Nick took hold of Leigh's hand and said, "Oh, it wasn't the ride."

Brian thought about the kiss he and Leigh had shared and scowled for a second. He had no right to make a move on her. Especially when he could tell they liked each other.

Nick thought the scowl meant Brian was mad at Nick for the feelings he had toward Leigh.

"Are we ready to head back?" Dallas asked, completely unaware of the tension between Brian, Nick, and Leigh.

"How about dinner?" Leigh asked, looking only at Nick. He looked hurt.

"I don't know," Nick said.

"Why don't we all go back to the hotel," Brian said. "Dallas and I will take AJ and Cordelia to Balboa Island and then you two can go out to dinner."

Nick smiled at his best friend. "That's the best suggestion I've heard all day."
