Chapter Seven: A Wrong Turn

Grayson called AJ at his house. She got his machine. She paged him. She e-mailed him. And after two days...nothing.

She was wavering between heartbreak and rage. She wondered if something had happened to him. She wondered if he had gotten what he really wanted and decided to drop her. She wondered if he didn't think she was good and didn't know how to tell her. But she couldn't believe that. She knew that AJ loved her. She knew she had been what he wanted. So she was worried out of her mind.

She finally went to AJ's house. She knocked on the door, but no one was home. She knew where he kept the spare key, so she let herself in.

She sat on his couch and waited. She waited nearly four hours. Finally she heard a key in the door. She sprang up.

"What the-" AJ exclaimed, as he turned on a light. "What are you doing here?"

"I knew where the key was," Grayson said. "Have you gotten any of my calls or anything?"

"Yeah," AJ said, refusing to look at her.

"Well?" she asked.

"Well what?" AJ asked. He finally looked into her eyes. His heart broke again to see the misunderstanding in her eyes."

"I had heard stories, but I chose not to believe them," Grayson said quietly. "I guess you are the love-em-and-leave-em type. Got what you wanted and leaving me behind?"

"I want you to leave," AJ said, without emotion.

"That's good," Grayson said. "Because I sure want to leave."

She stomped out of his house and slammed the door behind her. She ran to her car, crying all the way.
