Chapter Three: Stars and Dreams

"You guys are all awesome," Deanna said, as she and Howie walked out of the hotel.

"Should I get a cab or what?" Howie asked.

"Nah," Deanna said. "I only live a couple blocks away. I can walk."

"I'll walk with you," Howie said. "If you don't mind."

"Of course not," Deanna answered.

"The stars seem so close tonight," Howie said, looking up at the sky as they walked. "I've always loved stars." "Hmmm...me too," Deanna murmured. "I used to dream I could live up in the stars."

"In a castle?" Howie asked.

"Of course," Deanna said. "What was your favorite dream?"

"Being a happy man," Howie said. "A great wife, a few kids, nice house, and a secure future."

"Sounds great," Deanna said.

They walked in silence the rest of the way to Deanna's house. Howie didn't know what about Deanna caused him to picture her as that great wife he had dreamed about.

"I had a great time tonight," Deanna said when they got to her house.

"Me too," Howie said. "Can I see you again?

"Sure," Deanna said.

"Are you busy tomorrow night?" Howie asked.

"No, tomorrow's my day off," Deanna answered.

"Cool, how about around eight?" Howie asked. "Dinner?"

"Sounds great," Deanna said.

"Great!" Howie exclaimed. He impulsively leaned over and kissed her. She was shocked, but kissed him back.

"Yeah great," Deanna said, as she watched Howie walk back towards his hotel. She didn't normally just go out with complete strangers, but then she hadn't been going out with much of anybody lately. Maybe it was time to live on the edge. Take her future into her own hands. "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, wish I might, have this wish I wish tonight."
