Chapter Four: An Understanding Shoulder

"So, how was last night?" AJ asked Brian at lunch later that day. "Howie says you never went to his house."

"Nothing happened," Brian said. "We went inside, watched a movie, fell asleep, woke up, fought, and I left!"

"Fought?" Howie asked.

"Yeah," Brian said. Trying to change the subject, he asked, "When does Nick get in?"

"Fought with who?" Kevin asked. He looked concerned.

"Dallas McKenzie," Brian sighed.

Kevin sat back and watched Brian. He knew why Brian had left Dallas, and he knew the hell Brian had gone through.

"You okay?" Kevin suddenly asked.

"Yeah," Brian said. "Why?"

"You went out with Dallas for two years, had a bad break-up, and fought with her six years later," Kevin said. "I know you. You aren't okay."

"So I'm not okay," Brian said. "What can I do about it?"

"What'd you fight about?" Howie asked.

"Why I can't see her anymore," Brian said.

"Why can't you?" AJ asked.

"Because it hurts," Brian said.

"Why?" AJ asked.

"Bone, do we really have to go through this?" Brian asked.

"Yes. It's my house," AJ said, "And you're hurting."

"She cheated on me," Brian siad. "With my best friend."

"She necked with your best friend?" Howie asked.

"No, she slept with him," Brian said. "We went out for two years and never slept together, but one night she decides to sleep with my best friend!"

"How'd you find out?" Howie asked.

"Steve told me," Brian said. "He felt guilty."

"That's harsh," AJ said. "God, I thought I would die when I thought Grace was cheating on me. I can't imagine standing it with someone I'd known for two years, and with my best friend."

"That's not the worst part," Kevin said. "Steve told him what happened right before Brian was going to ask Dallas to marry him."

"Wow," AJ said. "Hey man, if you ever need to talk, I'm here."

"Thanks Bone," Brian said.

AJ's front door opened and someone yelled, "Honey, I'm home!"

"Frack's back," Brian said.
