The unanimous Declaration of Independence made by the Delegates of the People of Texas in General Convention at the town of Washington on the 2nd of March 1836.
The State motto of Texas is "FRIENDSHIP" derived from the meaning of the word "Texas." Spanish settlers adopted the word "Tejas" from a Caddo indian word meaning "ally" or "friendship." The legislature adopted the state motto in 1930.
