we found each other on a cold thursday night
we'd been sitting on the 9:30 train
we didn't know where we were going
but there was nothing keeping us from where we came

I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired
and she just felt all alone
two lonely souls that found each other on that dreary night
we came towards each other and she said Hello

we started talking over cheap booze
we talked about the past and ourselves and where we were going to
when the train stopped we got off and walked for miles
we talked for hours as if it was the only thing left to do

I said I wanted to break away and start from zero
no more being stuck in the same old place destined for nothingness
she said she just wanted to be someone's hero
but that wasn't something she was going to find in her downward spiral of helplessness

we talked and laughed and held each other and cried
we'd found someone to hold onto on that desperate night
and even though we said our goodbyes when the sun rose in that cloudy sky
it felt to me like the world was suddenly so very very right

I never believed in angels
but I guess I could be wrong
and I like to think that she was mine
when I needed one without knowing it for so very long
