Richard Starkey, or Ringo Starr as he is now know, was the least popular of all the Beatles. He was not exactly drop-dead gorgeous and, since he played the drums, he was always 'in the background'. But he was one great guy! When he was a lad, he went by the name of Ritchie. He was always in hospital, with a burst apendix, a coma and tonsilitis. So, he didn't do very well in school. His parents divorced, but it was not the drama scene like John's, and he stayed with his mum. He didn't really play any musical instruments when he was a boy. But he joined a group and his dad bought him his first set of drums. In his little band, the leader said Ritchie should change his name. Since Ritchie loved rings so much, it was changed to Rings. Then, evetually, to Ringo. Then he changed his last name to Starr. His band, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes did so well they were offered to go to Hamburg, but they declined. Later, Ringo met the Beatles and did a few gigs when Pete wasn't there. When Pete Best was fired by Brian Epstein, Ringo became a full-Beatle. |

Ringo was a perfect drum-player, but not so talented at writing songs. His only two songs released were Don't Pass Me By (White Album) and Octopuses Garden (Abbey Road). Ringo was a cheery, lovable guy, but was looked down upon compared to Lennon and McCartney. When the band split up, Ringo kept in touch with all the other members, and when John was shot, Ringo was the first to comfort Yoko. |

Ringo's characteristical features are his large nose, and his baby blue eyes. Although he did quite badly in school, he got an A+ for Drama. In all the movies Ringo always seems to get an important part. In Help!, he has the ring. In a Hard Days Night, it is he who is picked on by Paul's grandfather. And on a Magical Mystery Tour, he has the most scenes. Once the Beatles split up, he went on to have his All Starr band, and then he read the voice of Thomas the Tank Engine! |

Compared to Paul and John, Ringo wasn't a 'pretty boy', but he still married! |

Ringo married his child-hood sweetheart, Maureen Cox. With her, he had three children, Zak, Jason and Lee Parker. But in 1975, Ringo and Maureen divorced. After living alone for 13 years, Ringo married Barbara Bach. They now live in Monte Carlo. |
