glacier

come here and i'll show you
just the tip of my glacier
that's all we'll have time for
cuz i leave town tonight
i flow with the water
a river or an ocean
so don't let your tongue
get stuck to the ice

you caught me staring
and i caught you, too
but your hands sliding over my slippery skin
they knew i'd glide away before too long
so what if in the morning
i float off across the blue
right now i'm leaning in your car window
to the perfect background song

so here i am
where the current topples over
some blonde kids play with rover
and the honeymooners smile
and that's when i realize
there's nothing casual about this
cuz every single first kiss
sends me plummeting a mile
and on my way down
i break off tiny pieces
or maybe the pieces
are broken off by the tide
i leave them to melt
on your fingers and your lashes
as little reminders
of both open wide

come here and i'll show you
just the tip of my glacier
that's all we'll have time for
cuz i leave town tonight
i flow with the water
a river or an ocean
so don't let your tongue
get stuck to the ice
