silver lining

look out the window, what a breathtaking sunset
pollution tends to make things
oh, so pretty in the west
molecules are making the best of the situation
coloring their damage for an outsider's view
life handed me some lemons, you can guess what they advised
but i can't see a way to keep my mouth from running dry
cuz every silver lining has a cloud
i try to keep my chin up, but the raging of the storm is much too loud
they say, be optimistic, & i really wish i could
but it takes a lot of sugar for lemons to taste good
most days i can't believe that this is my situation
this is not my estimation
of how life was supposed to go
remember when you were my best friend
and we never had to pretend
remember when i would sway, and you would bend
you used to split my sides with gales of laughter
i thought a ring would guarantee that feeling ever after
it felt like we were always on the verge of something new
now my future is a breakdown, and all i feel is split in two
i'm not asking much now, just a cool glass of water
a phonecall from my daughter
and the patience to get me through
when my ship comes in, i'll try to navigate the night
i'll study all the charts, i'll be the captain of the starlight
second to the right, and straight on til morning
but it seems the sky is falling
and all the rain is blocking out my view
