SMALL TOWN
© Andy Bassett (APRA)
I am a small town
I'm neither here nor there
I'm just a small town
Where the locals stand and stare
As you pass through me
On the way to who knows where
And break the silence
Hanging heavy in the air
I am a small town
Between points A and B
Don't look at your maps
Cause they don't mention me
I'm miles from anywhere
And an hour from the sea
And there's somewhere else
That you would rather be
I've never had a night life
I don't even have a bar
There's nothing here to tempt you
To step out from your car
I've got no supermarket
I'm not that kind of town
But you can use my phone
When you break down
I am a small town
You don't recall my name
And no-one born here
Has ever courted fame
And those who leave me
Swear they won't be back again
But life goes on around here
Just the same
Once I was a trading post
And a busy market town
Every Monday morning
People came from all around
But the city stole my traffic
And the railroad let me down
But I still feel alive
Remembering the sound
(Repeat verse 1)
