Congrats! You're now 'big' in the USA, why did it take so long? Howie: "I think it has a lot to do with timing. It also depends on what kind of music is popular at that moment. Our first single was doing pretty good in the clubs back then but at that time rap was really popular in America. Right now pop has a major come-back in the USA because of the Spice Girls, Hanson and us!" Do you think that Hanson is a threat for your success? Howie: "No, people are asking us that all the time. I think we're totally different than they are. Their music is more alternative. There was a plan for us to go on tour together with Hanson but our managers stopped it because they thought it wouldn't work." What's the biggest sacrifice you had to make to be successful? Howie: "I miss my mom's home cooking!" A.J: "You have to do without your friends for a very long time. In the beginning of our carreers we were home a lot, now it's seems that we have to miss them for a very long time! But we would make any sacrifice because we know that it can be over tomorrow. The only thing that counts right now is The Backstreet Boys." Nick: "I regret the fact that I never went to high school. The onther guys are talking about their high school experience so much, it gives me the feeling that I have missed a lot. Especially the social part of high school like dating or playing in a high school team. I want to go to college one day and I hope I'll make the basketbal team!" You just had a big tour through the USA, how tired do you get after a tour? Kevin: "You get extremely tired but that's the price you got to pay if you want to be successful. People want us but we can't be everywhere at the same time. When we're touring we give everything we got. After a tour we're exhausted!" Nick: "Yeah, we're really tired after a concert." A.J: "When I have a day off, I can sleep the whole day through. I'm just like a dog, nobody will see me that day!" Did you ever got agressive out of frustration, smashed your hotelroom or anything? A.J: "I have to be honest, I broke a lamp one time. I was really mad and just pushed it of the table. I also threw some fruit out of the window to see if I could hit a car. You can get pretty bored when you're in your hotelroom all the time." Is calling home not a better solution? Brian: "Yes, of course it is! We do that normally, we have huge phone bills! During our last European tour, I got my mom and brother to join me because friends and family makes touring a lot nicer. I also make many pictues or else I forget where I've been with the BSB." Do you have time for yourself when you're touring? Howie: "Barely. Only when we're on our tourbus or when we sneak into a club after a concert." Brian: You now what is so weird?? Whenever we're touring, we feel good and we stay healthy but when we have time off we get sick. Our friends call us to do things together because we're free for a week but we have to stay in bed!" There are so many people that claim to be your best friend, only because you're so famous. A.J: Yeah, that happens a lot. One time I got called by my aunt Edna. Suddenly I realized that I don't have an aunt called Edna...." Kevin: Now we're big in the USA too, it will only get worse. More old friends will get in contact with us. But we know that our real friends will never try to get profit out of our success. We keep in tough with them when we're touring to let them know what we're up to. I'm actually really proud that my old teachers and high school coach can see what I have done with my life." Are you online a lot to seek for info on the BSB? Nick: "When I'm at home, I'm always behind my computer! I'm often searching on BSB pages to see what people write about us. 70 % Of what people write about us isn't true. The're so much rumours about us on the internet. We have a official page and all the info's there are true. It's amazing how many people go there." Did you ever dream about getting this successful? Kevin: "We were hoping that we would hear our song on the radio, the rest is a big bonus! We never thought it would be like this. That it would take so much time, haha!
