silverchair first hit the spotlight when their entry to SBS's Nomad-Pick Me Competition, a 6 minute version of Tomorrow, won.
The song was aired on Triple J Radio, and the rest is well, history. The response was massive for the song, and not long after, their debut
record, Frogstomp hit the Australian charts at Number 1, going on to sell over 3 million copies. A comprehensive world tour followed and on February 2nd, 1997,
the second record from them, Freak Show, was released also debuting at number 1, proving that they were no one hit wonders. More tours followed, including
the Australian Summer Freak Shows Tour all over the nation.
1998 was a reasonably uneventful year for silverchair, lying low, not touring and not releasing any records. I think that 1999 so far
has more than made up for this. With the release of Neon Ballroom, another debuting chart-topper, which is their best effort yet, a major worldwide tour, including
Australia, many of these being web-broadcast for millions to see, this year is looking good from everyone's point of view.
