Music You Need to Hear!!

This page will be dedicated to the music that you might not have heard yet but soon will. I like to find bands that no one has ever heard of and the tell everyone I know about them before the band makes it big. I also like to find songs a popular bands cd that will be a future single. I have a pretty good track record in picking new music that will make it big. I simply do a little research on the web and find out what I can about up and coming bands and then I listen to the songs that I can find. I try to get at least 2 or 3 songs from a band before I decide if they have what it takes to make it. This is just my opinion and it really doesn't mean anything but I hope that some people will read this and find a band that they may never have heard of otherwise. So I will try to update this page constantly with all of my predictions.

John Mayer is someone to watch!

John Mayer gives an original sound to the acoustic guitar lead band. The unique style that John has created a sound that I feel will gain him many fans. The fact that he is just starting to get some of his songs recognized by VH1 shows that he is on his way. He has been around for about 3 years and his new album Room For Squares is a brilliant example of his talent. If you get the chance to see him live consider youself blessed. John's sound comes from the coffeehouses of the Southeast. His style has been labeled as a type of folk-rock. The sound is comparable to early Dave Matthews Band. I find it odd that I like John's music so much cause I am not exactly what call a fan of Dave Matthews. But John has won me over with his sound. So I recommend that you get some John Mayer music especially if you are a Dave fan and even if you aren't.4/26/02

System of a Down - Aerials

"Aerials" is the last track on their album Toxicity. The entire album is great as you probably heard from its first two singles "Chop Suey!" & "Toxicity". System of a Down is definitely on the rise. Their first album System Of A Down gave us great singles like "Spiders" and "Sugar". They didn't get the kind of play time that the singles from the new album are getting. I think that if "Aerials" gets released as a single then the album will sell thousands more. I was not a fan of their prior album but Toxicity is great. The majority of the songs on the album are great and I am looking forward to seeing them in concert this summer. I will see them when the Ozzfest '02 tour comes to Philly on 7/12 and on 6/7 at the Y100 FEZtival. I have front row seats for the FEZtival and I will be posting pictures soon after the concert, so come back and look for them.4/26/02

Breaking Benjamin - Polyamorous

Breaking Benjamin is a band out of Northeastern PA. They have a sound that like a cross between Hoobastank and Puddle of Mudd. The lead singer's voice I the key to the great melodic feeling to "Polyamorous". I got the chance to catch the first couple songs from them at Tink's Entertainment Complex. Thet totally rocked the little that I saw.4/26/02

Clove rocks NEPA

Clove is also a band from Northeastern PA. I saw this band this past week at the Woodlands. They played at the Concert For Karen IV, which is a benefit for a woman that died from leukemia. I went to see all of the other bands that were there and I was blow away by the energy and the presence that the had on stage. The are fronted by a female and this normally turns me off to a band but they had something that made me listen. I hope that didn't sound sexist but I just think that rock bands are better fronted by men. My friend Anne and I looked at each other in amazement as they were an unexpected find. My friend Anne took it upon herself to buy herself and me a Clove cd. The album is called Absolutely Nothing and it has songs like "Like That" and "Souvenir" that remind me of early Cranberries and Garbage. The ease with which this band grabbed my attention proved to me that they are a band to watch, closely.4/28/02

Course of Nature - Caught in the Sun

Course of Nature is a great new rock band out of Alabama. They just released their debut album named Superkala. The first single off the new album is called "Caught in the Sun" which is a great rock song that is a change from all of the rap rock that has flooded the market. The video for the single is now being featured on Mtv and VH1. They have a sound that is almost "Creed-like", who they are touring with. They will also be touring with Nickelback. Course of Nature will hopefully rise above the opening band status and headline a tour.5/9/02

Dexter Freebish - Leaving Town

Dexter Freebish's single "Leaving Town" won the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for the Song of the Year. It is the first song on their debut album Life Of Saturdays. Kyle (frontman), Scott Romig (guitar), Charles Martin (guitar), Chris Lowe (bass), and Rob Schilz (drums) make up Dexter Freebish. Coming soon you will be hearing the second release from them, "My Madonna". Dexter Freebish will be performing on 5/12/02 in Houston, Texas so if you get the chance, check 'em out.5/9/02

Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down

Dashboard Confessional's single "Hands Down" can be found on the December 18, 2001 release So Impossible. Chris Carrabba is the only real member of Dashboard Confessional. Chris' songs are normally about pain and troubles that everyone goes through. The live performances that Dashboard give are said to be extremely intense. The pain and heartbreak that he sings about have gotten him a ever growing fan base of "emo" kids. Emo kids are kids whose life if filled with tons of emotion. Other bands who use emo are bands like: The Promise Ring, The Get Up Kids, Onelinedrawing, & Jimmy Eat World. "Hands Down" is a song of being with that perfect person and feeling like you could die right then and it would be fine. Lyrics like "My heart is yours to fill or burst or break or bury or wear as jewelery, which ever you prefer." give the listener the ability to feel just the way Chris did when he wrote it.8/22/02

Pearl Jam 4/28/03 -- Philadelphia Spectrum

Set List: Crazy Mary, Spin The Black Circle, Hail Hail, Save You, Green Disease, Small Town, Nothing As It Seems, Even Flow, Insignificance, Given To Fly, You Are, 1/2 Full, Daughter/(WMA), Corduroy, Love Boat Captain, Black, Do The Evolution; 1st encore: Animal, Go, Glorified G, Better Man/Improv, Alive; 2nd encore: You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Ed solo), Soon Forget, Jeremy, Fortunate Son, Rockin in the Free World, Yellow Ledbetter
From the moment they walked on stage everyone in the building knew that it was going to be an amazing night. Crazy Mary was an unexpected opener that set the tone for the whole show. I was blow away by each song which seemed to feed the songs that followed. The crowd let Ed and guys know that we glad they stopped in Philly with the deafening ovations that we gave them. I don't know how this is only the second time that I have seen them. Performances like this make me wonder why I don't just quit my job and follow them on tour. I was waiting for some songs from Vs. and when they came back out for the first encore oooohhh did they deliver. Animal into Go and then Glorified G was a deadly combo. The second encore gave me a pleasent suprise when I heard the first notes of Fortunate Son echoing through the Spectrum. I would hoping for Thumbing My Way but at this point I knew that I was at the best concert I have ever seen. Closing with Ledbetter, enough said. A night that I will never forget, but I will try on 7/5 and 7/9 when I see them again!!!!!! 4/30/03
