Singer nabbed for lewd show at campus pub

The only real surprise with Guttermouth's tour of Canada is that it took the punk band's
lead singer Mark Adkins until Saskatoon to get thrown in jail.
This is, after all, the California band with albums named Puke, Balls, Full Length and 11
oz. A band that boasts on its Internet site of "leaving behind a trail of
mayhem."
The trail ended for Adkins on March 21 when city police arrested him after an all-ages
show at Louis' Pub at the University of Saskatchewan. The band headlined a bill of five
punk bands working across the country on the Sno Jam Tour.
Adkins was charged with committing an indecent act after he allegedly performed a magic
trick called "the disappearing penis" that involved stripping naked after
inviting two young ladies from the audience onstage.
The charge involves Adkins allegedly exposing himself to someone under 14 years of age,
said Staff Sgt. Glenn Thomson. It's also alleged Adkins invited an underage girl onstage
and convinced her to expose herself to the audience.
The incident sparked a quick and strong reaction at the university. Place Riel Society
general manager Al Bromley is embarrassed for the campus and angry with the promoter.
"The promoters from whom we purchased the event had an obligation to tell us about
past problems with this band. They dropped the ball," he said Thursday.
"Make no mistake, the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the person who was
arrested."
Bromley said he learned after the fact how Guttermouth had played the University of
Calgary, "and he did the same thing, with exposing himself, and then he encouraged
the crowd to attack the security. It was real ugly."
In the near term, Bromley said U of S officials are responding by reopening informal
channels with other university venues.
"Our programmer has counterparts throughout the country. We'll be taking steps to
reinforce our communication links with them," he said.
No one knows what has since become of Adkins or Guttermouth. The prevalent rumor is that
they've left the country. They were booked to play a club in Timmins, Ont. on Wednesday
night and never showed.
"I'd heard they'd been arrested; that's why they weren't here," said Marg, a
waitress at the club.
On the band's Web site, there was a news bulletin posted Thursday night that "Mark
Adkins has been arrested in Canada during the Sno Jam Tour, and will not be playing on the
rest of the dates."
