Backstreet Boys 'Millenium' Review | ||||||
Millenium (n) - a period of a thousand years. To teenagers though, Millenium is the name of the ultra-popular boyband Backstreet Boys' sophomore album. The album starts with the high-energy tribute to their fans 'Larger Than Life', which was suggested by AJ as a possible album title, but nixed because it might have been thought that they were saying that they themselves were 'larger than life', and ends with the tender tribute to their mothers 'The Perfect Fan' penned by the Boys' own Brian Littrell. This ballad is backed by Brian's high school choir, adding an amazing depth to the song. Another high-energy, fast paced song is the rocking break up song 'Don't Want You Back'. Kevin Richardson, the oldest Backstreet Boy, also tried his hand at writing on this album with the heartwrenching 'Back To Your Heart', where in Teen People's June/July 1999 issue, Kevin says, "This song is about somebody." but would not reveal who. The lingering sadness of the Boys' past year is captured in the ballad likely to affect you the most 'Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely', which was the last song written by famed producer Denniz Pop before his death. Another song on the album, one that the fans knew well before the album's release, is 'I Need You Tonight', made from the song 'Heaven In Your Eyes', which was performed as Nick's concert solo. 'I Want It That Way', their first single off the album, has the Boys pleading not to be broken up with because they're still in love, similar to another ballad on the album 'Don't Wanna Lose You Now'. This CD, filled mostly with ballads, but with several awesome high-energy songs, is sure to take up permanent residence in your CD player and is well worth buying! |
