You Never Know: Chapter 1
Angeline looked over at her best friends and rolled her eyes. Caitlin and Melissa were drooling again. Angel couldn't figure out what they saw in the Backstreet Boys. She grabbed their arms and pulled them away from the Backstreet Boys display in Claire's.

"Hey!" they protested.

"You can drool over the pop boy-toys later. Right now we kinda have to get Brendan a birthday present, remember?" Angeline asked. Brendan was Angeline's boyfriend of two years, they'd been dating since their sophomore year of high school. Brendan was the most popular guy in their school and all the girls were jealous of Angeline because she was going out with him.

Caitlin and Melissa exchanged a look. They both really didn't like Brendan. Before he and Angel had started dating he'd had a reputation as a player, and since about the middle of their junior year they'd been hearing rumors that Brendan was cheating on Angel.

"Why can't we drool over them now?" Caitlin whined, trying to get the subject away from Brendan before she said something she knew she'd regret.

"Because you can drool over them later when you force me to watch their live televised concert since you couldn't get tickets," Angel said menacingly.

Melissa stuck her tongue out at Angel. "Fine," she said.

"Thank you!" Angel said as she dragged them out of the store, walking backwards. "Oof!" Angel let out a grunt as she landed on the floor next to a tall guy in a baseball cap and sunglasses.

"Ow," they groaned simultaneously.

"I'm so sorry!" Angel said as the guy stood up and offered her his hand to pull her up.

"Nah, it's alright," he said in a southern accent, which was unusual up in Ohio.

Caitlin, Melissa, and the two other guys who were with the guy Angel had knocked over started laughing.

"Only you, only you," Melissa said through her laughter.

"I can't help it!" Angel complained.

"Now I know why the yearbook committee elected you Class Klutz," Caitlin snickered.

"Shut up!" Angel stuck her tongue out at them, causing them to laugh even harder and the guy she'd knocked over to laugh as well.

"Class Klutz?" he asked. "I can see why."

Angel blushed a deep red and stared down at her Nike's. She hated when people teased her about how clumsy she could be. "I said I was sorry," she said in a plaintive voice. "And besides, I'm not the only clumsy one," she said, placing her hands on her hips and glaring at the guy.

"Chill girl, I was just teasing," he said defensively before she could go into attack mode.

Angel glared at her friends and the guy, grabbed Melissa and Caitlin and stalked off.

"Hey wait! I didn't get your name!" the guy said, quitting laughing abruptly.

"That's for me to know and you not to find out!" Angel called over her shoulder as she went into Sears.

His face fell as he watched her pass out of his sight, forever. He turned to his friend. "Why does this happen to me? I meet a girl I'd really like to get to know better and then she leaves?"

"Because you have bad luck?" his friend suggested. The guy acted like he was going to hit him. "Nah, I'm just kidding. You never know bud, you never know."
