Kellyn Archer smiled as she walked into the busy Sam Goody with her best friend, Lauren, by her side and money in her pocket. There was only four weeks left before school got in and she was determined to make them the best. Kel and Lauren exchanged a quick glance and headed over to the Pop/Rock section of the store. There was a mass of people but Kel and Lauren didn't mind. Kel found it rather fun when she had to push people out of her way to look at CDs.
Kel walked on ahead as Lauren stopped to look at a display. When Lauren noticed Kel was walking away, she quickly called after her friend. She thought Kel might want to see this too. A new group. A cute new group.
"Kel, come here." Lauren said. Kel turned and noticed her friend had stopped near a cardboard cut out and display case. On it were the pictures of four incredibly hot guys. "You ever heard of these guys?" Lauren asked. Kel shook her head.
"No, have you?" Kel asked.
"No. They're cute though! Look at him!" Lauren said and pointed to a guy that had brown hair with blond streaks in the front. "Wait..." Lauren crouched down and read a heading underneath the almost life-size picture. "The Moffatts. Chapter I: A New Beginning. Scott..." Lauren paused and pointed at one of the guys. "Clint..." She pointed to another one. "Bob..." She pointed to a guy who looked exactly like the one, Clint, only this one had long brown hair. "and Dave." Lauren said.
"I don't know. I think this one's the cutest." Kel said and pointed at Clint.
Lauren stood back up. "I wonder if they're any good."
"Lauren, can you say Backstreet Boys ?"
Kel said, meaning that they were just like every other boy band."Well, you never know." Lauren said as she and Kel decided to go over to the Pop/Rock section.
Kel picked up the Never Been Kissed [her favorite movie] soundtrack and flipped it over when she noticed a track by that group, The Moffatts. As she decided whether to buy it or not, a song came on over the loudspeaker after "Believe" by Cher had gotten over. Neither Kel nor Lauren knew what or who it was, but they both felt like dancing. Kel smiled as Lauren pretended to dance when they were all alone in an aisle.
When they were almost ready to check out, Kel had an urge to buy The Moffatts' CD. She had some extra money from babysitting and she figured it wouldn't hurt her wallet too much to spend an extra $15.
As Kel and Lauren went to check out, the guy behind the counter, Brock his name tag said, examined the CDs they were about to purchase. "You know, we haven't been selling a whole lot of these." Kel looked at him like he was nuts. Brock saw this look and smiled. "But they're a good group." Brock laughed a little. "They don't dance!" He said happily. Kel just wanted to check out.
"You've heard them?" Lauren asked.
Brock nodded. "Actually, we just played them a few minutes ago. Their song..." He paused and flipped the CD over and read the track titles. "Until You Loved Me. It's a catchy song." Kel made a "fake laugh" noise and Brock realized that a line was forming behind the girls. "Oh." He said, as if responding to the crowd's silent groans.
After checking out, Kel and Lauren left Sam Goody and looked at their watches. It was almost time for Kel's mom to pick them up by JCPenney, and they were on the other side of the mall. They were silent as they walked to the North end where JCPenney was.
Once they got near JCPenney, the girls sat on a bench and caught their breath because they had power-walked. Kel took her two new CDs out of the bag and looked first at the Killing Mrs. Tingle soundtrack she bought. The two had just seen the movie in the mall theater before they went shopping.
Kel looked a little shocked. "Man they're everywhere." She said when she noticed that once again The Moffatts were present on the album.
Lauren looked up from what she was doing and questioned Kel with her eyes. "Who?"
"The Moffatts."
Lauren looked and found The Moffatts and a song title next to their name, "Misery."
"Kellyn!" Debbie, Kel's mom, yelled from inside JCPenney, next to a lady getting a free makeover.
The girls looked up, stuffed their purchases back in the bags and walked toward Mrs. Archer.
When they got in the car, Kel asked if her mom could put in her new Moffatts CD. Usually Mrs. Archer was opposed to Pop music but considering Lauren was there, she said it was okay.
As soon as "Until You Loved Me" filled the car, Kel and Lauren exchanged wowed glances. They had just been "dancing" to this song inside the store. They both loved the song and decided The Moffatts was their new favorite group.
