chapter ten

Brandon got in the car and looked at his excited sister and her friend. Lauren had a big poster of some sort, but Brandon didn't ask about that. "Going to see 98°, huh?" Brandon asked as he pulled out of the driveway.

Kellyn and Lauren looked at Brandon like he was nuts. "We're going to see The Moffatts." Lauren said disgustedly. Brandon laughed.

"I see." He said and let the girls giggle and chat.

When they arrived at the fairgrounds, Kel and Lauren made a mad dash for the stage area. There was a fence though, and no way they could get in. They decided to wait for the sound check, which was just about to happen as they got there. Kel had brought binoculars and she was using them. She scanned the stage and sucked in a breath when she saw Scott and Dave Moffatt sitting on the stage about a quarter mile away from where they were standing.

Lauren's eyes got wide as she looked to see Scott and Dave on the stage.

There was almost twenty Moffatt fans watching and waiting. Lauren decided to take charge.

"Alright ya'll!" Lauren said, raising her voice to get the attention of everybody. When they were all looking at her, she spoke. "On the count of three, scream SCOTT as loud and obnoxious as you can."

Kel laughed at her friend being so crazy.

Lauren started the "count." "One!" She paused. "Two!" She continued. "Three!" She finished. All the girls screamed.

"SSSSSSCCCCCCCOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!" Looking through the binoculars, Kel screamed when he smiled and waved.

"Guys he's waving! And smiling!" Kel said and the girls squealed in delight.

The small gathering of girls did the same for Dave, but he didn't notice right away.

Lauren was getting ansy, waiting to hear their songs actually being played. Kel wanted to hear them also.

When Clint came out on stage in his black tank top and red Hawaiian shirt, Kel almost died. He looked so good. "There's Clint!" Lauren smiled at her friend's excitement.

About five minutes passed and then the girls heard the beginning of "Raining In My Mind." They screamed and screamed and screamed and screamed. After about twenty seconds, though, the song stopped. The group of girls were bummed, but talked amongst themselves for awhile.

Soon, the opening of the ballad "Miss You Like Crazy" started and the girls all smiled with delight. They sang along with Scott and giggled at themselves. The guys stopped mid-song and Scott turned to his left where Bob sat at his drums.

"Bob," Scott said in his cute Canadian accent. "I think you need to go slower."

The group of girls screamed.

After awhile, the sound check was over and Kel and Lauren went to go sit in the grass for awhile until the concert started. Now Lauren figured was a good time to show Kel what she had made.

Lauren took the bright orange posterboard and unrolled it. In big, bold, black italic letters, the sign read "I LOVE SCOTT M. FOREVER!!!" with hearts and daisies and stars all over it.

Kel laughed. "You're not gonna hold that up, are you?"

"Yeah, I am." Lauren smiled and rolled it back up.

"You think that's gonna make him like you or wanna make out with you or something?" Kel laughed, not being serious.

When all the guys were on the stage, they decided they might as well get the sound check over with, since they hated to play their music for fans before the actual concert.

Scott stood up and grabbed his guitar and plugged it in, as Clint did the same. Bob slipped on his drummer gloves and Dave stood up and cracked his knuckles.

"Alright, guys. Let's make this quick." Scott said and made sure his brothers were ready. They all nodded and worked with their song "Raining In My Mind" to make sure their instruments were right and they could hear themselves.

After only playing for approximately twenty seconds, Frank rubbed his chin and waved his arms, signalling for them to stop. Scott sighed and rolled his eyes.

Scott, Clint, and Dave stood around while Bob sat behind his drums and watched his dad bend a wire.

After awhile, Frank announced for them to play "Miss You Like Crazy." They got about halfway when Scott stopped.

He was pissed. "Dang it," the microphone didn't pick up until he continued. "Bob, I think you need to go slower." Bob nodded and did exactly what Scott told him to.

When they finished, the guys went backstage.

Scott and Bob walked around and sat in the grass where the fans wouldn't see. "See any 'I Love Scott' signs, Bob?" Scott asked, annoyed. Bob shook his head.
